OPTIONS, OPTIONS, OPTIONS!
At some point this week, you will get to choose your OPTION courses for next year, GRADE 10!
Will you be making the move to the new St. Thomas High School campus.
What OPTION courses do you feel St. Thomas is missing?
Why do you feel that would be a GREAT option course?
How will it benefit the student?
Explain.
I will be making the move to Lindsay Place High School, it's gonna be a bit of a pain in the butt because it's a lot further from my house which means I have to wake up even earlier which is never fun. One optional course I feel St. Thomas should implement is a guide to investments and stocks. Now more than ever young adults, even kids are investing thousands of dollars because they have so much money from Serb and don't know what to do with it. I think this would be a great course because it would teach kids how to handle big money, do their taxes, and it would make stocks go from gambling into a reliable tool. It will benefit the student because, they can make more money figuring out the best way to pay off taxes, and where they should put their money into into, and they will also be able to understand what to do with large sums of money in the future. All classes say they will prepare for the future but this one actually would.
ReplyDeletei agree, I think that teachings students stocks and investments will help us a lot in the future.
DeleteDefinitely, learning this is preparing us for what's to come and making sure we're ready when we are finally faced with this situation.
DeleteI completely agree that financial education would truly prepare us for the future and make our lives much easier. Very well written blog, Thomas!
DeleteYes, I will be making the move to Lindsay. I think that a course to prepare us for the future would be great. Like, how to make more money, instead of losing money. This will benefit the students by how to manage and make our money. I also think that St Thomas should have a class to help us find what kind of job we want to do later in our life. I assume that many people don't know what they want to do as a job, so I think that this class would help out many students.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! They should tech us those things.
DeleteI 100% couldn't agree more, They teach us to know where the pulmonary artery is, but not how to do taxes! Great Blog.
DeleteI agree, they claim their preparing us for the future but without learning about money it make our lives tougher because we need money to survive.
DeleteI will be going to Lindsay Place and I am on the more excited side of the spectrum of students. I say this because it is close to my elementary school and not a big difference in terms of time of commute for me. I think that they should have a course on nature and spiritualty (of nature). I feel that too many of us have forgotten the importance of this.
ReplyDeleteMy family and I weren't that sure about going to Lindsay Place or not, because of the location. But it was only a couple of weeks ago when we finally decided that I was going to go. I feel like St-Thomas should make a course teaching us more about the government and taxes. We're put in school to learn and prepare ourselves for the future, but were not learning things that are essential to making it through life. We should be taught on how to do taxes and how to make money and invest. We'll benefit more from this subject because it really focuses us on what's important right now.
ReplyDeleteI agree, school is supposed to help us prepare for the future. Great blog!
DeleteI will be making the move to Lindsay Place. I think an option course that our school should provide is financial management and business. It can teach us how to spend money wisely and the best way to manage the monthly budgets in order for us not to overspend on one thing. Learning about business can also help with basic economic principles and how to earn money instead of losing them because, at some point, we all need to get a job. I think the school should focus more on what can be beneficial for our future development and what we really need to know.
ReplyDeleteI agree, learning how to spend money wisely is very important. Great blog
DeleteI completely agree, learning about business may give us the guidance we need to start one. Awesome blog!
DeleteYes, I will be making the move to the new St. Thomas School campus and I am pretty excited for this new change. I think our school is missing a course about life. In this course we would learn basic life skills that we would need to know like paying taxes. This class would also teach us about career choices. This course would help us get a better idea of what we want to do with our lives. I believe this would be an amazing course because we will all eventually have to make decisions about our future and this class would better prepare for these decisions.
ReplyDeleteI think that would be a great class, it would guide the students to where they want to go if there too shy to ask for help or the just don't want to.
DeleteI think that this course is a great idea and would definitely help a lot of people. Good blog!

ReplyDeleteI don’t know if I’m going to Lindsay because I’m looking at other schools to go to. I think the school should add a class about how to manage your money and how to make more money using your money, by investing. But we're too busy learning about history, no disrespect if you enjoy history but I feel it’s a big waste of time. I don’t need a whole course to know that there have been bad people in the past. If we actually learned about the stock market and how to invest it would be something that could help us out a lot in the future. It won’t be a class where you wonder why you're there because it will help you succeed in life. Another thing all schools should add is more phys. Ed. classes. If it was up to me there would be phys. Ed. everyday because nowadays there are more kids that have weight problems and it’s not good and in my opinion it shouldn’t be normalized(with exception of people who can’t do anything about it because of health issues). The phys. Ed. class will also teach you how to eat properly and maintain a healthy lifestyle. These 2 additions would be super beneficial to the students because if you learn about money and about health and you put the things you learn into play, you have a higher chance of having a good life.
I completly agreethat phys ed should be every day. nice blog!
DeleteI agree, a finance class that teaches you how to manage or invest your money will be very good, as very few schools prepare you for the money aspects of your life. Great Blog!
DeleteI will be making the move to Lindsay next year, but personally I'm not that excited, it just means waking up earlier than I already have to. I feel like we should add these important courses to the sec 4/sec 5 outline: money management and how to start and manage a business. I feel like these courses will really help students who instead of working for someone, would like to start their own business. For the second, money management, I believe we need it because in the future some of us might make rash decisions and spend all of our money by accident or go bankrupt. In that money management course it could include, taxes, stocks, how to buy a house, etc.
ReplyDeleteIm not excited either about moving to Lindsay.
DeleteI still don't know yet if I will be moving to Lindsay place but I have looked at other schools too. I feel like a basic business or personal finance course is missing from St Thomas. These course will teach the base of how to manage your money or how to get involved with stocks. I feel like these would be very good course to have because in just a few we may be living by ourselves and not knowing how to some of the most important ways to help you financially. This course will be beneficial to the students because most people don't know or understand how this works and they will learn something knew unlike history where we learn the same thing every year.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree I had never thought of adding a business course to the curriculum and I think that plenty of students would benefit from taking those courses.
DeleteI'm definitely staying with the move to Lindsey Place because I see no point in moving. I think that with this move learning will only improve and everyone will appreciate the update facilities in the new building. As far as the new course options I think all of them are great even though some of them just aren't for me. I know I will definitely be applying advanced math and am debating whether to go into advanced science or not. The downside of advanced science is that they remove your option for an elective course which sucks because there are some good ones. Such as woodworking, fitness and health, intro to guitar, art and dance. I think that giving the students more freedom in what they choose to learn is great. I also really appreciate that their is a music course directed directly at string instruments because it means that I can be a larger part of the schools music class where as before guitar got overshadowed by the flute and trumpet.
ReplyDeleteYes I will be going to Lindsay Place. I genuinely feel like a course that I think should be taught is how to find your passion and values. Instead of learning the different mountains and rivers in our country, we would dedicate a course to introspection, where teachers would teach in a way where every student would really think about what makes them happy and then, play around with that in order to create a future on that passion/skill. We’re having such a large identity crisis because we never get to ask ourselves very basic questions like: "What are my values?" or "What do I want to do in life?". These are very valuable questions which you will eventually need to answer if you want to have a good and happy life. Unfortunately the way schools are right now, everybody is being put in the same box and most of what makes us unique and special is wasted in order to achieve more of a same result.
ReplyDeleteI think that course is really important and should be an option. Nice blog!
DeleteYes I will be making the move to Lindsay Place. I really like where it is, and I like that it is much bigger and more outdoor things, such as bigger fields. A course that I would like, is to prepare us for our life in the future, preparing us for the finances in our life, like big purchases such as houses, or taxes, or even managing your money and how to invest it. I believe this is much more important than some classes that you will never use in life, as this class can teach you how to be successful, or at least not to end up on the streets, for not knowing how to manage your money. I know that basically no other schools do this and if Lindsay Place would do this, it will really help the students become better financially in life.
ReplyDeleteI also like how Lindsay Place is a bigger and newer school than ours! Good blog.
DeleteYeah finances would be a good idea.
DeleteI will be making the move to Lindsay place, and personally, I don’t really mind, I just hope my bus is still able to get me to school. I feel like an option that St Thomas is missing is some sort of a financial course where we learn how to start businesses and how to manage our money. We should also be taught how to do our taxes, in order to prepare for what comes after school. A great option course could also be figuring out what you would want to do in the future, because I’m pretty sure that most of us don’t know yet, and even though it seems far away, it’s never too early to start thinking about it. These courses could be extremely helpful and beneficial to students because instead of learning about random history from hundreds of years ago, these classes will help us in our future.
ReplyDeleteI think that Lindsay place is gonna be quiet the adventure considering it's size and new structure which I won't be accompanied to but eventually i'll get the hang of it I think.I feel that a good option that saint Thomas is journalism. Now I know you may think I just copy witted but no I actually think it would be a great subject. The power to express opinion, write in the intentions to inform the people of the truth, learning new vocabulary and doing projects to learn how to improve my capability to get to them people and show them the truth is all I want. I would benefit the students by expanding even further there knowledge in the English language and for those who want to pursue the path of a journalist. It can project us further into the virtuous language and how to express the matter, how to backup your points to prove the truth and how to get to the people would be the goal of this subject and that's why I think it would prove to be a necessary subject to be added to St.Thomas high school's curriculum.
ReplyDeleteJournalism is a great idea. We have to write stories and stuff in a lot of our classes and if we could learn how to do that better than I think we would be more successful in school.
DeleteI will most likely be making the move to lindsay place and im pretty excited because they have more space, bigger gyms and more. But I don't know if they will be offering a schoolbus to my area, so that might be annoying. Personally I would really want a coding class for st.thomas where you learn the basics of different languages and then make different projects like web design or games. I think it's a good course because in our society, it's always a good skill to have, and it looks good on your resume. Also a lot of jobs look for people who know how to code.
ReplyDeleteI am also very excited because of the space they have on campus and coding is a course that is missing and is very important. I do think that many students would take that course if it was an option.
DeleteI probably will be making the switch to the new St. Thomas campus since I can't really find another school that is better and plus if I move to another school I would have to start over and it wouldn't be beneficial for me to do it. I feel like the option courses are lacking athletic courses. There is an art course and many music courses you can take and there is only fitness that requires athleticism and it is basically just working out. There should be a course that works on stamina, endurance or any sport related activities. That is what I feel that this school is missing. It would be a great option course because it allows students to relieve stress or even deplete their energy which would help them focus more in classes. It is also healthy to do some exercise which is very beneficial for a student and this is what the course would be about. Another way it can benefit a student is that the course would be several times a week to maintain the same pace of exercise to get students even more in shape.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably be making the move to the other school. I think that the option courses are missing more choices for technology classes. They have art courses and music stuff and even dance and woodworking, but they don't have a class where people who like to code or like using computers, can learn about computers. That seems kind of dumb to me. I mean we use computers and technology in so many of our classes, and not only that but in our daily lives too, but instead of having the choice to learn more about that type of stuff we have a dance course.
ReplyDeleteI will be moving to the new St. Thomas school, I am actually really excited about the move because Lindsay Place is a lot bigger than our current school. I think St. Thomas has good option courses to appeal to more creative students but I think that they are missing some courses that will help people later in life. For example a course on managing money I think is very useful because I know some people my age who get an allowance and spend it all and then have no money. Managing finances is a very good skill to have and will benefit everyone who learns how to do it.
ReplyDeleteI think moving buildings will be exciting. Great blog!
DeleteI will be moving to the new building next year because I don't think it's worth changing schools for only two years. A lot of my friends are going to Lindsey so I will be staying with them as well. I think a good course school should offer is money managing. For me, growing up scares me because I feel like I know nothing about the real world. I don't think certain things were learning will be important in the future. I also think, we should have more physical education and movement throughout our day, so having gym everyday on the schedule or every other day would be a good idea. Exercising and moving helps students focus in class and can benefit everyone in a positive way.
ReplyDeleteI will be making the move to Lindsay next year, it isn't worth changing schools for the next two years because we're changing buildings. This blog is quite interesting because unlike the other ones, most, if not all, are saying the same thing and I completely agree with every word of what they're saying. No matter how you word it, people want to learn about money. Whether it's taxes, starting a business, investing, people want to know how to handle one of the most important things in their whole life. Money will be around our whole lives and it's only natural that we want to learn about it. I've always wondered why we learn about money so late in our academic career, is it any harder than physics, chemistry, or biology, which are all taught in high school? If it is, then why? Why would someone make handling money so complex and difficult for people to learn? I feel that I'm straying from the topic here, but I think learning how to handle money is important and it will benefit students by allowing them to make the most of their money, improving their lifestyle and allowing them to help others do the same.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Taxes and investing need to be thought at a young age so we know what to do later on. Great blog!
DeleteI will be making the move to the new campus at Lindsay place next year. Although I love the campus we are already on and I am not really excited with more kids and having a completely new start as if we were back in secondary 1, I will still be sticking with St . Thomas. I feel that one class that is missing is a general class that can teach you the important thing that will happen in the real world, like taxes, stocks, buying and selling properties, etc.. I find this is important and needed in every school is because we are always taught the stuff concerning a job we will be taking but never the stuff that will happen outside our job when we are independent. When we become independent, nobody ever knows what to do, how to work with money and the real world, and this class will teach you just that.
ReplyDeleteI will indeed be moving to Lindsay Place, because technically it's the same school, and the same education, just different buildings. I have never been there, so I don't know what to expect. I think that St. Thomas would be better if it had a coding class, because it will teach coding languages and how to create things like art of games. It would be great for people who would want this in a future career, like an engineer creating code for robots, or developers of famous video games.
ReplyDeleteIt'll benefit the student if they go on in life, choosing careers in these types of jobs, because they will have a head start, and will not have to learn from scratch. But, if someone is interested in anything else, this wouldn't really benefit them.
