BLOG 27 is FREE CHOICE!  You could blog about whatever it is you want, except what you've already blogged about!  You could go on a rant or you could simply blog about something important to you.

Be creative and write about something you feel important or something you would like to tell your audience. Write about something you are passionate about.

You must remember your audience. It is not simply me (Mr. Katz) reading this blog!  If you will be ranting about a certain individual, you need to leave their name out of this. You could give them a pseudonym (example: Mr. Ed) or simply leave their name as anonymous. Make sure your language is appropriate. Do not go on swearing tangents

  1. Since I'm free to talk about anything I want to talk about how far our society has come in the past couple decades. Think of it 30 years ago if I told someone what I did every day they'd be astounded saying what do you mean you watched tv on your phone, phones don't have screens. Obviously I know that 30 years is a long time no matter how you put it but in recent history we've been working harder than ever to try and create new technology. Imagine how long it took for someone to come up with the idea of a boat but now most things that you can think of are possible with enough effort. For example you can make a robot that makes you breakfast every morning with just some engineering and some programming.

    1. Yeah, it's amazing how much we progressed through society. Great blog!

  2. I wanna talk about the growth of entertainment. There are so many ways of entertainment now that we can’t even count. How much our society progressed throughout the years is ridiculous and that one of the reasons why we progressed was entertainment. I feel like entertainment is an essential part of humans in our society. Since we have so much entertainment, we can be blinded from the real world and it might become an issue in the near future. I believe that entertainment is an essential part, but it should be contained and that we shouldn’t over do it.

    1. I agree, I feel like sometimes I need to put down my phone and look at the real world around me. Great Blog!

    2. I couldn't have said i better myself. The fact that our entertainment has evolved and become so exciting, such as the rush you feel in a first person shooter game, you don't feel like going outside or doing anything else. This doesn't apply to everyone of course, but entertainment is "engulfing" more and more people the more it evolves. Great blog!

  3. I would like to talk about the fact that COVID-19 has been going on for more than a year, and people are still seeing friends and family. It annoys me how completely ignorant people are. I haven’t seen my grandmother in more than a year, while some people are still partying with their friends. Also, some people still don’t believe in the virus, which I find is completely stupid, because if it didn’t exist, everything would be back to normal. I recently heard that in Melbourne everything's back to normal and people were able to enjoy the holidays with their families and friends. Sadly where we live and in many other countries, people still refuse to follow the rules and wear masks. Those people are the reason this pandemic is still happening today and won't stop anytime soon.

    1. Yeah, people just need to cooperate so that we can move past this pandemic. Great blog!

    2. That's one of the main reasons why it's still spreading also how people where there masks because many people wear them but uncover there nose which renders the mask useless.

  4. Since we can talk about anything, I'm going to talk about how we need to decide what we want to do, only at the age of 17 (age depending on how old you are when finishing high school). Personally , I have no idea what I want to do in 2 years. Were expected to go to Cegep and have this whole plan for what we want to do. I can barely decide for what food I'm in the mood for. This may just be me, but I find it crazy how we have to make such a big decision in our life when we are technically still teenagers.

  5. This is going to be a fun one... Right now, at this moment I thought about the fact that asking people about their pronouns every time I meat somebody new is really awkward. I don't really do it, if I have a really good guess on someone's gender I will just assume they are what I think otherwise I just ignore saying things like he or she.
Honestly, I feel like a good hearted person but sometimes in this society I feel like I'm walking through a mine field and no matter what I say it will explode and cause collateral damage to people around me.
My third thought is that our class really needs a clock, I'm considering opening a donation box and all findings will go to a new clock.

    1. If you are too shy to ask about someones pronouns just use they/them pronouns (unless they say something different) witch are gender neutral so you wont be misgendering or assuming someones gender!

  6. For my free choice blog I will talk about my least favorite animal. I recently learnt about the behaviors of chimpanzees and they have quickly become my very least favorite animal. The reason I dislike them so much is because of how they treat members of their group, they are very violent with their own kind. They will harm members of their own community if they are not obedient, primarily females, the only other species that is that violent to their own kind are humans. Chimps are also omnivores, meaning they will eat plants, bugs and meat, for some reason knowing that chimps eat meat is rather unsettling. They will hunt and eat smaller monkeys which I find very strange and unusual seeing as they look like bigger monkeys.

  7. Sometimes, at night I love to rethink hockey games in my head, of course I know this isn't normal, as most boys my age would rather think about girls or suddenly becoming a superhero and saving a city. I enjoy reviewing hockey games. Last night I was reviewing a game that has haunted me for nearly a year now. It was the first game of an Ottawa tournament, and our goalie never showed up, we waited and waited, and finally, after going 5-0 down he arrived, right at the start of the first period, as soon as he showed up, the boys were absolutely buzzing, our big 6'0 russian destroyer got us an early goal, then a minute later I managed to flip the puck over their defenceman an beat the goalie on a forehand deke. Two shifts later our line strikes again as I slid the puck from behind the net, to my wingmate, and he buried it low glove. Then with one minute forty-five seconds left i sniped an absolute laser from below the goal line to make it 5-4. We would have scored to tie up and hit overtime, but the referee ended the game early stating that the game was going on too late. I was furious, this was our chance of attaining a legendary win, and the hometown ref sided with his team. This game has been replayed countlessly, and I am slowly waiting for the day when I face the leaside valley flames again.

  8. For my choice of blog, I will be talking about cryptocurrency, a new type of stock that made over 1000 millionaires. During Covid, I learned about stocks, and cryptocurrency, which is an online currency that you can invest in. Basically, you most likely heard of Bitcoin, which is the base of cryptocurrency. Although the subject is very heavy, I will try to make it simple: It is basically a stock, that is also a currency used today. It is not controlled by an individual nor the government, meaning that transactions from different people from around the world can be secure, and not monitored by third parties. Over the this break, I got to learn a lot on the subject, and decided I should invest (using my parents name, with their consent) some money. After school started, after checking up every day during the break, I have successfully tripled the money that I invested it. I was really happy, as investing money could be a risk, but will be fun if you ever try.

  9. I will be talking about the education system in Quebec. I have always had a problem with the way Quebec's education system is run. I think the cegep is a great concept, its a nice intermediate in between university and high school. The problem is that it's unique to Quebec and no where else in the world has this system. I find a lot of Quebec's systems are meant for people who want to stay in Quebec when a lot of people don't necessarily want to go to university in Quebec or canada. So it overcomplicates things and makes it harder for you to attend university's in other countries. For example if a child of two immigrants wants to go to school here they have to go to a French school, but what if they want to learn English? I find the system is too focused on keeping us in Quebec.

  10. For my free choice blog I will be discussing why it's annoying when suburban kids make growing up in the hood their aesthetic. I find this annoying because nobody would willingly choose to be poor. Growing up in a dangerous neighbour isn't fun or something you should glamorize. The only time you should flex your lifestyle is if you made it out or you're trying to. I've never seen people more obsessed with gangs and African American culture than suburban kids. I find it genuinely kinda funny when these kids waste their money on durags and bandanas and desperately try to master the crip walk just to look cool. It's entertaining.

  11. For my blog i will be talking about the school dress code. I find that not only is it way to strict, like for example not being able to wear ripped jeans or spaghetti straps. I find that it's way too much, like i would understand not wearing super cropped shirts but there's honestly nothing wrong with most of the stuff people get dress coded for. and most other public lbpsb schools dont have a dress code as strict as ours, like rennie or lindsay for example. I also find that teachers only dress code girls and not guys, i feel like they let them get away with much more than us like for example their pants will be way too low and you can see more than you want to but for girls if u see a bra strap its like its the end of the world and i find that very unfair.

  12. For my blog, I will be talking about how our school should invest more in unpopular sports. For my example, I will be using track and field. In the spring the school has around 6 practices, all behind the school or the street behind the school, instead of actually investing to rent out a track. For the winter our school is even worse when it comes to funding for track and field. We have a maximum of 5 practices which all consist of either climbing up several flights of stairs repeatedly, running around the hallways, or doing sprints in the gym. If the school at least had the decency to fund more for track it would lead to better practices, better morale, and then finally better results, but they won't do that for some reason, the school always funds more for soccer, hockey, and football, I don't get it!!!

  13. I will be talking about sports for my blog. I think that if we all wear our masks and be careful about Covid, then we should be able to play sports. Without hockey or soccer, I feel like there's nothing to do and I think a lot of other people are feeling the same way. For many people, sports help you feel less stressed, so I think that we should be allowed to play. I believe if we take the right mesures then we can make it possible to play sports again.

  14. For this particular blog I would like to tell you about 2 subjects that have caught my eye since the beginning of high school. Ever since I came to Saint Thomas I feel like I was one big mess and that I would not be smart enough to fit in but as it progressed I found a certain comfort to music. I became obsessed with learning more, progressing and even writing some songs myself. I eventually became talented in the Flut though it was never my passion. However there were 2 instruments that I was yearning to be able to learn, the guitar and the piano. I fell in love with the sounds they produced and how they are used in my favourite songs like Paint it Black by Rolling Stones and Only time will tell by Asia. When I got to ib that passion of mine was stripped from my mined set, my love for music was put on a pause but soon enough I found another passion in the arts of the English language. I was mostly inspired by the movie V for vendetta because of it's extensive vocabulary which smoothly intertwined with the movies subject matter. I became a bookaholik and read a lot for the goal of extending my vocabulary in the english language. In the end I developed a passion for both english and music.

  15. The topic I would like to talk about is my recommendation for shows on TV. One of my favourite shows of all time is Gilmore Girls. Personally, I can really relate this show to my life so its very interesting to watch it. The next show is Dawson’s Creek. I have only starting watching the first few episodes but it has already got me hook. The funny thing is my mom used to watch it too because it was filmed in 1989. The main characters are played by Katie Holmes and James Van Der Beek.

  16. The topic I would like to talk about is how great gen z is going to be 'running the world' when we're older. For example, I feel like most of us wouldn't let our kids have social media until they're older. We see how damaging social media is and how younger people are already on it. Like kids who are in elementary school have the latest new phones and almost every social media there is. We should be enjoying our childhood and not spend it on social media. The second thing I think we'd do that'll make a big impact is to limit school time. I personally love going in one day and staying home the other. It helps me and maybe others prioritise our mental health and we get a break from school. Finally, I feel like we'd make a good change on climate change and try to diminish pollution.

  17. For this blog I will be talking about my new puppy named Mia. We got her a month ago and she is almost 12 weeks old. She is a chocolate cockapoo with beige paws. My family and I have taught her a variety of tricks like sit, lay down and paw. Getting a puppy was a huge lifestyle change that I was not expecting. Taking care of a puppy is a lot harder than I expected but in the end definitely worth it. The best part is when you come home and she is so excited to see you!

  18. For my blog, I will be talking about a theory i found on reddit that I think is really funny and accurate. And that is that Charlie and the chocolate factory is just Saw for children. I also got reminded because of the willy wonka meme at the top. Because if you think about it, several children are selected to go to a secret location where they are put through a series of ''traps'' or scenarios that slowly pick off the children one by one through brutal deaths. (They don't actually die though) until one is remaining. Just like in the Saw films. Also Willy Wonka is a bit a of a crazy person. I just thought it was funny and that I should share.

  19. I realize that right now hockey season is far away. I really want to be on the ice again and score some goals. I haven't been doing as much physical activity since I stopped playing hockey because of COVID so, I really want the hockey league to open up soon if the cases go down. I love playing hockey and have been more bored than usual without it. I even have an outdoor rink right outside my house except there aren't any hockey nets there so there is no use. I wish I could play hockey again, it is so much fun and I miss it a lot, being on the ice feels great and I could just do whatever I want. Can't wait until COVID is over.

  20. I don't know if a lot of people here who play video games know this game, but it is called Titanfall. It is a totally awesome game, where you get around the map, killing enemy pilots using quick-thinking, and something called parcour. Then, when it is ready, you can call down a giant mech called a Titan, that you can jump inside and control, and kill enemy pilots, or enemy Titans, or you can leave the AI to do that while you continue doing parcour. The reason I am talking about this is because it is a very good game, but it is underrated, and not very well known. If anybody here were to give it a chance, I think they would find it to be one of the best First Person Shooters they have ever played.

  21. For my free choice of blog, I will be talking about Biden's inauguration that took place a couple of days ago. It was so different from what a normal inauguration would be like with all the pandemic going on and the Pro-Trump riot on Capitol hill that happened two weeks before the event. Personally, I thought it went pretty well. About 20,000 guardsmen were making sure people's safety and a lot of history was made on the inauguration day. Joe Biden became the 46th president of the U.S. The first female vice president, Kamala Harris. There were also a lot of performances, such as Amanda Gorman's powerful poem on having hope for their country and the National Anthem that was sung by Lady Gaga, etc. Overall, it was pretty well-done, and it built a better future for maybe not just America but Canada as well.

  22. For my blog I'm gonna talk about something that really annoys me. This thing happens a lot and every time it does it really pisses me off. The thing I'm talking about is when people pronounce things differently than I do. I don't know why I find this so annoying and I know that for them I'm the one pronouncing the word wrong, not them, but still. Every time I hear someone say "carmel" instead of caramel it just makes me want to punch something. I mean there's clearly an a in that word, but there always like "no, it's CARMEL". I mean for some words that I can understand like when someone says iron like "iern" then I know it's because you're just pronouncing the letters differently but when someone just doesn't say a letter in a word and says it wrong because of that, I find that really annoying.

  23. For my blog I wanna talk about something that I believe unites everyone in the world. If there is one thing that every single race, religion or culture has in common, it's food. Food is what we need to survive so every single person has had food in their lives. It's so amazing how food has evolved through the years and has become so diverse and delicious all across the globe. I believe food is one of the most abstract, yet traditional, forms of expression. For example, an abstract dish would be something in those Michelin star, Gordon Ramsay certified, restaurants where you don't understand anything on the menu. The chefs express themselves through that dish in a way that most people don't understand. A traditional dish would be something that has been passed on to you by your ancestors for generations. That dish has become part of your heritage, whether it's your religion, your country, or even an event that happened in history. For example, during the Great Depression, in Quebec, the "Pouding Chômeur" was made. That's why I believe that food is so important in our lives and definitely brings us closer together.
