A teacher was FIRED last week!
The teacher was fired for repeatedly using the "N-word" in class while teaching history.
The teacher felt that it was a way to express feelings to what happened in history!
What role do teachers have in your society?
Should teachers censor topics that deal with controversial topics?
Explain.
The role that teachers have in our society is, to, well, teach. They educate us about the things we would want to become in the future ( although, they don't teach us how to do taxes ). They help in our decision of what job we would want as an adult, because they help us realize what our strengths and weaknesses are. And, if teachers want to censor themselves when talking about a controversial topic, go ahead. It won't really stop them from being able to teach the lesson about it. But if they don't want to, and want to use possibly offensive words, I won't stop them. Not because I can't, but because I wouldn't really care.

I completely agree, they educate us about the things we would want to become in the future although, they don't teach us how to do taxes!
DeleteYup, teachers play a very important role in our society and future. Although I second that there are some things we should be learning. Like knowing that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell wont help me with taxes.

DeleteTeachers in our society are supposed to teach us useful things for when we are older. They also teach us with the basic necessitates for our everyday lives. I think teachers should censor some topics that deal with controversial topics because it will cause a lot of commotion within people. Although other topics like the Black Lives Matter movement shouldn't be censored but taught at a certain extend because more people need to be aware of what is going on and how black people aren't treated properly. Teachers should also try their best to teach the topic properly without offending anyone or hurting their feelings for what they believe in.

ReplyDeleteThe role of teachers is to provide us with information that can be useful in the future. Whether it's understanding what we’re good at, what our weaknesses are, etc. Their role is to try and make us succeed and help us. Teachers mentor students, become role models, and listen and look for signs of trouble. Teachers are also a huge influence on students. I feel like teachers should censor certain words that can be harmful or offensive to others. For example, teachers shouldn’t censor the Black Lives Matter movement, because it’s something that’s very current, but they should be careful of what words they use to explain it.

DeleteThe role of a teacher in our society is to educate us. To show and introduce things we maybe haven't learned yet. The whole point of school is to make sure we explore what we interested in that way we make the right career chose. I don't think topics should be censored. If we censor everything that maybe controversial, we will never develop our own an opinion on what we think is right and wrong. I think school these aren't teaching us things that are relevant to the real world. For example, in history how Quebec was founded is not only not interesting but it is not as important as discussing the pass and present role of the Black Lives Matter movement.

DeleteI think that teachers play a very important role in our society because not only do they teach a ton of important information that we will eventually need but we spend a lot of time with them and they can shape part of who you are. I think that the school board and society as a whole should learn to teach about important topics that are always treated as touchy topics that teachers should stay away. For example teaching about the history of racism that includes the history of the n-word and other topics which are perceived as controversial. We still teach about world war 2 to classes with Jewish kids in it because it's our history and we shouldn't shy away from teaching about racism or the oppression of women because it may bother people.
ReplyDeleteTeachers play an enormous role in our society. Teachers educate us with knowledge that we will need for the future and knowledge we need to be able to form our own opinions. They play a big role in shaping who we are. I do not think that teachers should censor controversial topics. Controversial topics are usually the most important. If they were to teach us about something controversial they should provide us with all the information we need to create an opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should express it in a respectful manner.

DeleteI think teachers do have an important role in our society. They teach and give us useful knowledge that we'll need in our everyday lives, and because of that, they shouldn't censor controversial topics. In the real world, words, actions, news, etc, are not censored. I find that we need to learn everything which includes the things that we might not want to hear, because there are many things that happen in the world that we might not want to happen, and when they do, we can't just ignore that.

DeleteI think that the role of teachers in our society is to teach and show us how to do things right. I think that, especially at a younger age, teachers have an influence on us as people and how we act further on. I do not think that teachers should censor topics because its important for us to see what happened and the whole story so that we are well informed and so that it doesn't happen again. But not to the point where they say or show something that could potentially hurt someone.

DeleteI believe that teachers have one of the biggest roles on children whist growing up, most teachers shape children, and even adults into the people they become. The school system is okay and all but they should be teaching us important things, like how to buy a house, how to pay rent, how to pay taxes, etc. I'm not saying at all that teachers shouldn't teach the BLM movement to there kids because that is really important in the past and todays society, but they should learn to be careful with words because that may affect the children and have negative effects on them, because most people look up to teachers as a role models, so if the teacher does something bad the child might fall into the same path.

DeleteThe role of teachers is to educate the students, and prepare us for the future. They also help us form our own opinions and introduce things to us that we haven't learnt yet. I think that teachers should maybe censor some words that can be harmful to students, but they shouldn't be censoring entire topics like the blm movement. They should be careful about what they're saying, making sure it is not offensive to anyone but we should definitely still learn about the important topics.

DeleteIn my opinion teachers have a massive role in our society except it's only the good teachers that actually play that role. The role they have is to inspire us to not be couch potatoes and go get a university degree. They can also have a role in the way that we think. For example since we've been force fed Shakespeare all of high school, most kids have come to hate it, though of course teachers can make you think positively about something as well. I don't think teachers should censor topics because the world is getting soft and fragile and that needs to change so kids should be exposed to all the horrors of the world.

The role of teachers is to give students education so we can get a job that we enjoy. I think that teachers should definitely censor the n word, but we should still learn about controversial topics to not repeat history. Teachers should censor what they think is inappropriate for us but still teach us on important topics.

I think that the teachers that we had when we were younger definitely had a bigger impact on us then now, so it's important to make sure their a good influence. but i think that even now they should remain respectful and that there should be some topics that should be avoided like this one or religion, or politics for example. i definitely think that stuff like that should be censored or avoided.

DeleteI think teachers have a huge influence on our society. They provide us with knowledge and update us with the newest information that's happening around us. Teachers should lead us to the right path and help us with making the best decisions. I don't think teachers should censor controversial topics because these are usually the topics that happened in the past or it's happening at the moment. I think people should face the situations instead of avoiding them. Also, everyone has their own opinions. If all the controversial topics are censored, they wouldn't have a chance to speak their mind, but they should respectfully express their feelings.

They help choose what we want to be when we get older, and help us find what we are good in, and our weaknesses. I do believe that teachers have a role in society. Teachers should not censor controversial topic, as it teaches us what not to do. It was in the past, and by learning about it, this thing swill most likely not occur in the futur. About the topic of a teacher getting using some a dicey vocabulary in class should be allowed (to a certain extent), as this teaches us about the past and how things were dealt with but not always, as it could lead to consequences, in this case, being fired.

DeleteThe role teachers play in society is to educate the youth to shape a progressive and better future, they teach us skills that we will need over the course of our life. History is a subject we learn in order to not repeat our mistakes and learn from the past, i think white teachers saying the n word contradicts this idea. Often people make the argument that they use the nword for “effect”, which to be honest is the dumbest thing i've ever heard, especially if there is a black student in the classroom using someone's trigger word for effect is horrible. However a few racist teachers shouldn't be a reason to stop teaching this topic altogether, it's important that students learn the importance of black history.
ReplyDeleteTeachers have a big role in society, they're supposed to teach us. The good teachers find ways to connect with their students and ask their students how the class could improve. We need more of these teachers, the ones that teach us things that we don’t know. I think schools should switch to a way that they teach us for the future, get rid of history. History in elementary school is fine but in high school it's the same thing but with more detail. They need to add more phys.ed classes, so that students can learn how to have a healthier lifestyle and add more design classes. In my opinion, if anything is censored and controversial, students know about it. The teacher didn’t have to use the N-word, everybody knows about the meaning behind it and how it's not a good word. Teachers should teach us more about the future and less about the past.

DeleteTeachers are vital in our society. They play such an important role because they have a huge responsibility, which is to educate the next generation. If we have bad teachers we won't be educated properly, and if we aren't educated properly we can't form correct opinions because we won't have all the information. I think that we shouldn't censor controversial topics, if it causes commotion, deal with it. We live in a society where no one wants conflict and so no one learns how to deal with people who have a different opinion. People need to learn to "agree to disagree". That being said, teachers also need to approach controversial topics very carefully. Math is simple, it's factual, there's only one answer. Controversial topics have many answers, and it is important to give people all of the information from both sides in order for them to formulate a proper opinion. Teachers have to be very neutral and allow all opinions to be heard. Dealing with controversial topics isn't a bad thing, because you could mimic a debate, where students would learn how to formulate an argument.

ReplyDeleteTeachers play a vaste role in society because they are the people teaching the next generation what is going on in the world. Parents are also teachers to their kids, even if they aren't teachers in schools. I think that teachers shouldn't swear or make fun of others because us kids will be more likely to mimic that behavior.

DeleteTeachers play an important role in our society, they help us learn about things in the world and all about different subjects. I agree that teachers are important and that it is our job to learn from them to develop and become smarter. I think teachers should cover controversial topics in class because it is important to know all the good and all the bad. We students should obtain knowledge on everything. They should teach the disturbing topics to us, although, they shouldn't go too far by actually offending anyone by saying disturbing and vulgar words. They should know what to teach us and also to know where to stop and not go too far.

DeleteTeachers and school is a massive part of my life. Teachers have taught me most of what I know, and will continue teaching me new stuff until I'm finally done with school. I think that the topics we learn about in school should be a lot less censored then they currently are. Almost any topic should be available to learn in, but the teachers would have to teach it in the right way. A way that respects the topic no matter how wrong or stupid it sounds. Like if you were teaching history and you started saying stuff like "in 1863 they decided to give these n-words their own military unit to fight for their rights. And when they did the N-words fought harder than any cracker group out there!" that wouldn't be okay, but if you taught about it in a respective way, and as long as you weren't teaching about something that clearly shouldn't be taught about, then I think it should be completely okay to teach it.

I think that this teacher was rightfully fired, what they said was incredibly disrespectful and offensive. Teachers have an influence on children so by the teacher saying this word, the children being taught might think it's ok to say, which is very wrong. I think that if a teacher wants to teach a controversial topic they should, but with an unbiased opinion because, like I said they have a big influence on students.

Teachers influence their students by their behaviour in the classroom. I don't history should be censored. For example, it's very important that we learn the truth of things that happened to minorities. I'd rather learn the bad stuff Canada has done as a whole to black and indigenous people than have it be covered up for people to forget. As for the use of the n-word, it's simple. If you're not black don't say it. It doesn't matter if it's in a song, a book or a show. That word isn't for you to use if you're not black. That teacher deserved to be fired because that could've caused a lot of harm to black students and influenced others negatively.

DeleteI find that teacher's play an immense role in our society. Every successful person and every normal person has once gotten an education, maybe not always form teacher but anybody can be considered a teacher. Teacher are the base in our society because they are the ones who teach the future generations that will go on to do great things. Teachers also have a big influence on the kids they teach. For example, the teacher that was constantly using the "n-word" had a big influence on her kids. Every kids mind is empty and waiting for somebody to help fill it in; and when teachers like that have strong opinions, they will teach it down to they students. A teacher is huge in our society because they are the ones who fill those empty spots in our brain. When a teacher has these racially strong opinions, it translates to the students and that is the reason racism is still a thing today. Maybe not your actual teachers but someone big in your world who has taught you can still have that influence like your family. I don't believe that teachers should censor controversial opinions because usually those are the ones that are most important to learn. I just think that teachers should keep their own opinion to themselves to make both sides of the argument heard so that the kids can make their own decision on which side to choose, instead of the teacher drilling one side of the argument onto the kid.
ReplyDeleteTeachers are obviously extremely important in our society. In fact it would be nearly impossible to have a humane civilization without some sort of mentor. Teachers aren't just there to teach us the curriculum but also to help us learn other important lessons. They are also there as "role models" meaning having good teachers is crucial to a good education. Now having said that teachers also have boundaries. Saying or doing inappropriate things is very frowned upon and should simply not be done. No matter what that teachers opinion was, she/he knew that that word was not appropriate to use especially in an educational atmosphere. You have to think to yourself, are the students really missing out on something imporant? If not then there is no reason other than personal desire to use a word like that. I do believe that the teacher should have been fired, it is completely ridiculous and no child should have to listen to that.
