News surfaced last week about the possibility of extending Christmas holidays.
However, this may lead to an extended school year (possibly into July).
What are your thoughts about extending the Christmas holidays and the school year?
Do you think it is the BEST decision to stop the spread of COVID-19?
Explain.
I think that extending the Christmas holidays are a good idea because we have more days off and we can enjoy ourselves. I'm not sure if this is true but we might even be allowed to see family but then have 2 weeks of quarantine. I don't want to extend school in July because who would want to work in the hot weather. People want to enjoy being outside and having a good summer break stress-free. If the vaccine doesn't successfully work or get done in time, then I think this would be the best way.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think it's a very good Idea to extend the school year into July as well. Everyone will just want to be outside all day and enjoy the summer.
DeleteI agree, I think this is a great prevention from COVID spread, great blog!
DeleteSame! I want a a long break but I also want to be outside in July! Great Blog!
DeleteI think that it's a good idea to extend the christmas break because on the news, they have mentioned that the virus will get worse during the winter, but I don't think that means that we should extend the school year into July. It will be hot and sunny in July and were going to have to stay in all day with no AC. That sucks. Yes, I do think it is the best decision to stop the spread of Covid because we all want this pandemic to be done with and for everyone to be healthy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough some people have AC, I do agree that nobody will want to go to school in a time meant to have fun, go swimming and any outdoor activities.
DeleteI totally agree, it is going to suck being stuck in the classrooms with no AC. Great blog.
DeleteI like the idea to extend Christmas, as it can reduce the number of cases and possibly make things really better, but I can also go skiing. I love skiing, and you can ski while COVID is present, but you need to wear a headpiece. The extension for Christmas will be mostly likely good for everyone as we can spend time with immediate family (Your parents, and siblings) and maybe if all goes well, with your other relatives as well. I understand how due to this, we will need to go to school in July, but I believe that's a small price to play to hopefully put in end to Corona for good.
ReplyDeleteI love skiing too! great blog.
DeleteI agree with your blog, but personally for me i would prefer if they go online for these 2 weeks. Great blog!
DeleteI like the idea of having a longer Christmas break for a few reasons. For starters I don't really mind having an extra weak at the end of school because it would be worth it. We could isolate for two weeks and than merge bubbles with my family knowing were safe after getting negative test results.
ReplyDeleteyes i agree, great blog
DeleteI would love for the winter break to be extended, and this will hopefully help to reduce the spread of the virus, due to less exposure. I really wish my family could come over, which is terrible.
ReplyDeleteI would personally hate that the school year would be extend into the summer because i like having two month not worrying about school. I think theres are better ways to stop the spread of covid for example instead of having two weeks off we can just do it online so that we can continue learning while at home and we also don't have to extend the school year. Even though online learning isn't the best it is still a better options than extending the school year. I do think its a good to stay at home for two weeks before going back to school but i think there are better ways to do it.
ReplyDeleteI don't fully agree with your blog Rosemary. Although that is a good way to help stop spread of Covid-19 and make our school year stay the same, I'm pretty sure that both students and teachers did not enjoy their time doing online schooling, including me.
DeleteI agree. having a shorter summer would be bad, I don't like online school but I'm willing to do it if my summer doesn't get shorter.
DeleteI love the idea of a longer Christmas break, however I do not like the idea of a shorter summer vacation. I understand that we cannot have one without the other, but I still think I would prefer it with both the winter break and school getting extended. Although I love swimming and biking and having so much fun in the summer, we don't get enough time to enjoy the winter. There is so much to do and I don't think that two weeks is enough time to do all those activities without also having time to relax. Even if they take off two weeks of our summer vacation, we get to still have more than two months, which is more than enough time to enjoy ourselves with all the fun activities summer has to offer plus having time to relax in the sun. I believe that it is a great decision to have an extra week after New Year's. Before, it seemed like as soon as we finish New Year's, we are already at school. With Legault allowing small parties on New Year's, chances are some people will get infected and if school was right after, we will be back to square one.
ReplyDeleteMoving from square 3 to square 1 wouldn't be so bad, would it?
DeleteI really don’t want the holidays to extend. I would like to have a break, but I really don’t want school to extend into July. First, we don’t have air conditioning so it would be so hot. Next, summer is supposed to be a nice break from school. Finally, my birthday is in July and I definitely do not want school during my birthday. I think the best decision would be to do online schooling. As much as I don’t want to, it would be much better than being in class instead of on vacation.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it would not be fun in the summer especially with no air-conditioning!
DeleteThe government is constantly talking about how the main reason why we had a second wave was because of restaurants and people in their 20s throwing parties. Of course they are also not telling us how many cases there are in schools, I have absolutely no clue what's going on because the government has not been doing a good job at communicating with the population. I don't think this will help, considering no one is taking this second wave seriously anyways. People will still continue to throw parties and see each other. It also means that we will be at school when its extremely hot, with no air-conditioning and a mask, it will not be fun. I can't really complain about not getting my whole summer considering we had 6 months at home doing nothing. But there are other, more productive ways to deal with this situation.
ReplyDeleteI agree, people will still continue to throw parties and see each other. Great blog!
DeleteI agree, great blog!
DeleteI like the idea of having a longer Christmas break but the idea of having a shorter summer I don’t like. Every single student enjoys the summer, you sleep in, you have no worries and you have fun. If we have a 2 week holiday break but then we go like 2-3 weeks online it's better than a 4 week break but shorter summer. I don’t like online but it's the only way we could start to lower the number of cases we get in one day. I’m willing to do pretty much anything to not have a shorter summer.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Summer is all about relaxing. Good blog
DeleteHaving a extended Christmas break would be amazing only if we could do our exams before it starts. I don't want to have to study all of Christmas break because of exams. The idea of having a shorter summer isn't ideal either because having to stay inside of a classroom when its really hot outside, but if its to lower covid cases, I guess I could deal with it. Honestly I feel like the best way for things to go well is to just shut down the schools and go online. We would still be getting our learning perfectly fine, or even in these 2 weeks we could go online so we won't have to miss summer.
ReplyDeleteI agree, if we could do our exams before the break would be better. Great blog!
DeleteI like the idea of extending the Christmas holidays. We can have more time to relax and not worrying about school. However, I don't like the idea of extending school to July. It will be pretty hot without air-conditioning, and we have to wear a mask, which makes it even harder to breathe. I personally don't think that this is the best decision to stop the spread. The government should think about the consequences before making decisions. When we first started to go back to school in September, Gr.10 and 11 had to go every other day, and after two months, we had to do the same. Two months later, they might extend Christmas break. I'm not complaining about it, I know they are trying to stop COVID, but I feel like it would be better if they don't constantly change the rules.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of extending Christmas break isn't the best. I don't really like the idea because that means that exams will be after the break, so you'll have to try and find time to study during the break. Another reason I don't like that idea is because that means we'll have to go to school in July. It's pretty warm in July and I like going outside, but now, you'll have to be at school. It can be very uncomfortable in a classroom with masks and no air conditioning. This will most likely cause people to take off their masks our of discomfort which will not stop the spread of covid. Closing schools for two weeks won't stop the spread enough for anything to happen. Instead, if we close the schools and the year is pushed back into July school should be online during the summer so students can manage their work and still enjoy their vacation.
ReplyDeletei personnally disagree with you. also it would be nice if we were outside for those classes.
DeleteI'm not a fan of the extension of Christmas break for multiple reasons. Firstly, we're going to have to study for exams all through winter break which ruins it because the whole point of a break is to not have school on your minds. The second reason I don't like it is because this means we are going to be going to school in the summer. Being inside a really hot classroom without air-conditioning wearing a mask is not going to be very enjoyable. The third reason is probably the most important. The whole point of the early break is to stop the spread of COVID, but I think they're just doing that for statistics, not for actual health. It's going to be like September, in the summer the cases went down and when school started again the numbers spiked. That's my fear, but hopefully I'm wrong. I understand why the government did it and I'm thankful, because we can go celebrate Christmas with our family but I think they could've approached the situation a little better.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have an extended winter break. It would be a nice and relaxing break from school. But the downside to this would be that they would probably have to shorten our summer break. But I do think the only way that everyone can mix bubbles and gather together with their extended family would be to have those extra weeks. Those extra couple of weeks would be crucial in order to see family because it takes up two weeks to show symptoms. I believe that if we do not do this the number of cases will increase tremendously.
ReplyDeleteWere gonna be stuck in our houses the whole winter break which wont really allow us to enjoy the festivity and cultural activity's that we were accompanied to celebrating during this season.
DeleteResearchers say that without a vaccine it will take years for Covid-19 to finally be killed off. So what I'm wondering is why would you want to do this. From a governmental standpoint that is. There's no point. It be like buying something from the store and leaving it in the parking lot. We'll have the same amount of time in school, so it doesn't really matter when it happens or when we do the school. I guess if you really try to see the positives the you'd say "viruses don't spread as much in Summer as they do in Winter" or "they'll have more time to develop a vaccine because there would be no students spreading anything" or something like that, but we've been in this pandemic for like 18 months and so far there has been no vaccine, those 10 extra days are gonna make such a major difference that it would be worth changing up the whole school year. From my point of view I'd tell you that this is one of the straight up stupidest ideas I've ever heard. There is no point at all, it would probably take a lot of time to figure out that could be better spent literally any where else and I HATE Winter, so having my break in Winter and losing it in Summer would suck!!!
ReplyDeleteI think that according to the many predictions made incising the impact covid-19 will have on Canada during the winter I think that its best to extend the the winter break. Even though it may cut into our summer the many statements say that Canada will be impacted the most during the winter and that's why extending winter break might help by slowing down the spread. It may not be the best option by it is the only option which will allow the government to further research a better alternative in a matter of time.
ReplyDeleteI think that extending Christmas would be nice because I love going skiing and being outdoors. I also love staying inside and drinking hot chocolate with my family! The only thing that I don't like about extending Christmas would be the fact that we have to extend summer. For me, summer is all about relaxation and to be honest, school is not relaxing whatsoever. I think that extending Christmas would be a good idea because if people have family over, you have to quarantine before AND after they come over, and if we only have 2-3 weeks off, it won’t be enough.
ReplyDeleteI think that that's great but I really wouldn't like to be in school during July.
DeleteI think that though the idea of extending Christmas break sounds cool and all I think that everyone would regret that when it's July and you'd rather be outside than in a sweaty classroom doing school work. I think that they should jut lift the COVID ban for Christmas and deal with the repercussions because like it or not people are going too go see their families for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIt does get hot in classrooms so that would be really annoying.
DeletePersonally, I think they are being smart because it gets cold in the classroom with the windows open. and in July sure it would be too hot IN the classroom but i would think it would be possible to go outside for class. I think that winter break being elongated helps us as well because it is often too short and summer break is personally too long . Also, I know I'm not the only person here who found it harder to learn and concentrate with online learning and even with this hybrid learning since it is messing with my schedule.
ReplyDeleteI feel like it is a good idea because the number of COVID-19 cases has a chance of dying down. This is the optimal and safe decision and I feel this way because we also won't have to leave our houses during winter time which will be better for us. Once we reach winter, people might become sick and not have Covid and then they will have to get tested every time they get sick. Almost no one will come to school because they are a little sick because it is cold outside. There will be no way of telling whether someone has covid or if they are just sick because it is winter. Extending the Christmas break is the best decision in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteGood blog, although I disagree with your opinion, because it will mean less time during the summer.
DeleteI believe that Legault shouldn’t extend the school year if we have two weeks extra during Christmas break due to the fact that we can do online schooling during that time period. Online school can be the replacement of those weeks and it would be still considered school so we wouldn’t have to have a shorter summer break. A lot of schools are doing online school and it is going great for them. I think it is great that we have these two weeks extra of winter as winter is probably the season where COVID will spread the fastest so this is a great measure to stop and we can do online classes.
ReplyDeleteI dont think that online classes will work well because when we did them at the end of last year they were a disaster.
DeleteI would not like to extend the Christmas holidays because I think that I would be very bored. There would be nothing to do because there is nowhere to go on holidays. I would especially hate having to go to school in the summer, it would be so hot in the classroom because there is no air conditioning in the class and wearing a mask would be awful because of the heat. I don't think that there is any way to stop the spread of covid at the moment except for putting everyone in lock down.
ReplyDeletei agree it would probably get very boring, great blog!
Deletei love the idea of having a longer Christmas break but I don't want to have to stay in school until July. usually by the end of may im done with school so i honestly think i would have no motivation to do any work in june. But i definitely think that extending the holidays would help limit the amount of cases because even if were not supposed to get together im pretty sure a bunch of people will get together for christmas and new years so if we go back to school right after that then a bunch of people will get infected but if we wait 2 weeks it will be like a quarantine of sorts and there will be way less cases, so i think it will be worth it even if we only finish school in july
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of an extended winter break seems good but i definitely wouldn't like to have a shorter summer break. I think that if we just did online school for a couple of weeks in the winter, it would be a good idea because we would not have to have a shortened summer break and also taking a month long break in the middle of the school year doesn't seem smart for the students or for the teachers.
ReplyDeleteAlthough an extended Christmas break sounds great! If we would have no online school throughout this extended break, then I would be happy. Making the school year longer makes it so that we have less time in the summer. Summer can be a very important part of the students developpement as it's a time to relax and refresh. Personally I really enjoy my summer and would rather have those two weeks, but this is very important to stop the spread so I wouldn't be angry if it happen.
ReplyDeleteThere are, of course, pros and cons to these ideas. Extending the Christmas Holidays will be really nice, because it's christmas, and everybody likes days off, but people will be seeing their families no matter what. Nothing is going to stop certain people from seeing their relatives over the christmas break. And, extending the break will mean that we will have more time to make up for, which means extending the school year. Something no one really wants. I suggest we keep the regular schedule. What I mean is, the break should stay the same amount of time, so that the summer is the same amount of time it usually is. Even if it means a shorter christmas break, no one will be too displeased.
