What are some RULES (home, school, society) that you do not approve of?

Why do you NOT approve these RULES?

Should you be permitted to ARGUE against any RULE that you are against?

How do you go about argueing them?

Explain.

  1. I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions even if I don't agree with all of them but I always try to make it a point to try and see something from someone else's perspective. There are a lot of rules within our society that I disagree with but the one that bothers me the most is easily how school is supposed to consume our entire life's. In saying this I don't believe that school is bad but I do think that the fact that students have to go to school for the entire day to have to go do more work at home and have stress about deadlines and tests is to much for one person to handle while maintaining an active social life and proper mental health.

    1. I completely agree. School shouldn't consume our entire life!

    2. I agree. Homework and tests are really stressful and don't let us have a lot of free time at the end of the day.

    3. I agree, some weeks we have a test every day and teachers are still throwing presentations, orals and essays at you!

    4. I completely agree, technology (which was invented to free up time) allows teachers to assign us a lot more homework which ends up filling up any free time we would've had otherwise.

  2. There are many rules which I don't agree with in our society. One of them is the use of guns. In Canada guns are banned but in the US it isn't. It scares me because people can literally be holding a gun out in your neighbourhood. Some people might see it as having it for self defence but if they banned guns, you wouldn't have to worry. Of course there are other ways to defend yourselves like pepper spray. Yes I think you should be permitted to argue against most rule because people are titled to their own opinions but at the same time, keep some opinions to yourselves.

    1. Yeah, guns should be dealt with because we already have an idea of what might happen if they end up in the wrong hands.

    2. I completely agree this is a big issue.

    3. I totally agree! There are so many other ways to defend yourself. Amazing blog!

    4. It's a terrible law, a person can walk outside every day with a gun on their hip but racism is still one of the biggest things in the us and the president and government don't do anything about it.

  3. I think something that should be thought about would be how we are allowed to go to school with multiple people that have families when we can’t even see our own families (grandparents, cousins). Although I completely agree that we should be socially distanced from our families, it just doesn't make sense that we have to risk our own and others lives to go to school. I think that we can argue about this because no one knows what health problems your family might have and it can be extremely dangerous to go to school with a great amount of people. I know that the government reduced the amount of people in the class at a time, but 15 people is still a lot of people enclosed in one room.

    1. I completely agree with you! If we ever met up outside of school that would be considered illegal, it doesn't make sense. Amazing Blog!

  4. There are many rules that are out there that I don't believe are good or are comfortable with. There might be too many to name. The reason why I don't approve for almost all of these rules is because they were made for the wrong reasons. Some people have the influence to just make up rules because they feel that they are right. Rules should be made and agreed with unanimously by our or the society, people, etc. And yes, we should be allowed to argue these rules because we have the right to. If we believe that it's not right, than we should be able to argue against them. You should go out there and speak your mind and not care what others might say in return.

  5. Some rules that I really don't approve of(and I don't want to argue with anyone about any of this so I'm sorry if this offends you) are the rules people set on other people in society. Some examples are that people say that men aren't aloud to cry and when they do cry their considered weak, well I think that's just stupid, men are aloud to express their feelings just as much as women are. And some rules/stereotype's set on women in society are that they have to wear makeup/be pretty and that they are normally weak, that's also really stupid. I feel like people should be equal and be aloud to do whatever they want or be whatever they want, right now most people are stereotyped and I really feel like that should stop and that people should stop stereotyping other people because WE ARE ALL EQUAL!

  6. One rule that I don't agree with is the new rule on all the school buses. The rule is that we must share seats with another person. I think that this is a terrible rule because it mixes multiple class bubbles which greatly increases the risk of covid being spread. I don't argue against these rules because there is nothing I can do about them and I think it would be easier to just live with it. On top of that I have no idea about how I would protest these rules.

    1. I hate the busing rule. They clearly didn't think about all the pros and cons. Great blog!

  7. I believe a rule that should always be in place and should be followed is to wear masks. I believe that not wearing a mask is very risky and detrimental to everyone else's health. Wearing a mask should be mandatory everywhere as it affects not only you, but OTHERS. I feel like everyone should be permitted to express themselves about any rule they are against as these people have to follow the rules and in the end, it should be the people who follow the rules to make the rules in the first place.

    1. I completely agree Muhammad! Masks are scientifically proven to help stop and prevent Covid-19 so I believe that everyone should wear them and not fight against it.

  8. There's many rules that I don't agree with that happen in school. One of them being the busing rule. It used to be fine sitting alone or with a friend and I can't understand why our school decided to change it. Now, most people are sitting next to random kids from different grades and bubbles. This only makes the spread of covid even worse. Another one I don't agree with is the fact that the school says you can only drink at recess and lunch. This must be one of the dumbest rules i've ever heard. If i'm thirsty i'm going to drink my water and I don't need to ask permission to do so. Sometimes I think our school tries to be in control of the most meaningless things. Instead, maybe they should shift their energy to how stressful it can be for students to complete multiple projects and homework within a strict deadline. I don't really argue about rules. If I don't agree with it then i'll just do my own thing and talk my way out of it when I get caught.

    1. I completely agree. Whats the point of these busing arrangements if this can and probably will effect more people than it should. Great Blog!

  9. Although I cannot think of one rule specifically, many rules are ridiculous and should not be put in place. One that I can think at the top of my head is the use of marijuana, weed in Canada. Before Trudeau was elected for the position of prime-minister, weed was illegal. In his speech of why he should be elected, he included marijuana would be legal. I believe he did this for those extra votes, to get him where he is today. I believe he said such things as he knew he would not get the votes, so by introducing weed as legal, he would get many more votes. I do not agree with this, as he did it only for the votes, without taking in consideration how it can effect the lives of many Canadians. Do not take my word that he said that exactly or for that cause, but I am sure he did that to be elected.
Unfortunately, there is no chance to argue or try to stop this, as many people agree with him and it would practically be impossible to protest towards the government.

    1. I have to disagree, although consuming marijuana in large quantities is dangerous most people have done it. Ask any adult and they will probably tell you they've smoked a joint a couple of times. If he hadn't made it legal, people would still do it probably to the same extent as now.

  10. I know so many rules across the globe that are so wrong but the one that I believe is horrible is the concentration camps still in North Korea. Although this isn't really a rule per se, I really hate how North Korea is running their country and I believe that the U.N. or some other organization should put a stop on it immediately. Their are some really unbelievable laws and rules in North Korea that I can talk about for hours but I will focus on the concentration camps. Until only recently, I thought concentration camps were abolished in World War 2, but then I found out there were some in North Korea, some cities in China, and some other Eastern countries. Whenever some intruder or even a citizen does anything against the completely unfair laws, or even try to escape, you would be sent to a concentration camp. This should be removed immediately with all the laws and corrupt government. I don't believe that I will be able to fight this myself, I would probably need a higher organization to help fight with me or else I will either get unnoticed by the public or nuked by Kim Jun Un.

  11. One of the rules that I wouldn't say I don't approve of, more just don't understand is France's beach rule. The French have a law saying that on a French beach all males have to wear a speedo, any baggy or long bathing attire are forbidden, I'm not sure why they have forbidden trunks, but if I had to guess it would be for fashion especially because France is known worldwide for their class of fashion. Honestly I wouldn't argue against this rule, even though it's a little bit weird I feel like it would be a funny once in a lifetime experience if I was ever in France.

  12. There are many rules that I don't agree with, one of them is the use of marijuana for "medical purposes". The drug business is extremely wealthy, and I believe the government wanted a cut of that money. They made up some excuse and now make a lot of money off of it. Look at the stocks for pharmaceuticals, the numbers are almost always going up, especially during the beginning of the rule. My uncle made 3000$ off of stocks from one pharmacy in a few weeks. It's not something I particularly agree with, but I won't get into that. I think people should be allowed to argue about this issue, and they are. There are many ways you can argue about this issue, such as online forums, blogs, YouTube videos, etc. The way I believe would generate the most mass is online petitions, because someone I know did that and they got interviewed by Global News in their first two weeks after releasing it, and that was pretty awesome.

  13. A rule I don’t agree with is dress codes. I think that people should be able to wear whatever they want to without having to get detention. I find that people shouldn’t be judged by what they wear, like what is distracting about knee caps and shoulders. I think that dress codes should be less strict so that people can wear what they want as long as it’s not too inappropriate. I think you should be able to argue against most rules as long as you have a good reason why the rule is wrong. I personally state my opinions and try to convince them that my argument is right, but I also should also accept the fact that I am not always right.

  14. I do not disapprove of any rules, although, I definitely agree that people should be able to argue against rules. I believe that people deserve the right to speak their thoughts and this topic is relevant to this statement. Some rules can be unjust and that is why I assume that people should speak up to fix the rule into making it more reasonable. If I were to argue against a rule, I would provide a detailed explanation as to why I disagree with said rule. I most certainly would discuss the reason I am disapproving with this rule by explaining that it is not fair. I would have to argue with the fact that I disagree because I see it causing bad situations instead of reminding people the difference from right and wrong.

  15. A rule that I do not agree with is the no phone policy rule that takes place at our school. I don't find this rule fair because its not like our phone are super bad. While we are in class, I am not thinking about my phone I'm thinking about the subject that is being discussed. Our phone are our personal property so I don't think the school should have the right to take them. I think we should be allowed to argue against it because I don't just use my phone for social media but also for homework. My phone also allows me to keep in contact with my parents.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I disagree because I used to have the same idealism until I was confronted with the reason that instated this rule in our school. The reason that they band phones was because the first year of school the lunch monitors saw various tables of people not talking. There were barely paying attention to each other stuck up in the walls of the school.

  16. There are many rules in society and I understand that these rules are there to protect us and keep us safe. But I do believe that owning a gun should be illegal. I believe only trained authorities should have guns. There are other ways to protect ourselves. We have seen it numerous times on the news where someone with the wrong intentions got hold of a gun and killed multiple people.

I believe everyone's opinions matter and everyone should be heard. I think everyone should be able to contest rules they do not believe in by holding peaceful protests.

  17. I was just reading some of the blogs, and they cover some huge topics. But a rule I hate a lot, is very minuscule, yet it infuriates me so much. When I have homework, and i'm doing it, and its going well, my parents make me do it at the kitchen table. Why? I don't know. They just say because, even if I was working fine somewhere else. And the kitchen table is uncomfortable and doesn't have as much space. The couch or my room would be so much better. And I know it sounds childish, but I still hate the rule. I definitely think I should be able to argue, and when I have a well structured argument, my mom just pulls out the uno reverse I birthed you card.
    Not fair.

  18. In society these days there are a lot of rules, written or unwritten. Generally speaking I agree with most of them, and even if I don't I can see why they are necessary or at least why others could see them as necessary. There is one law that I can't for the lie of me understand though, and that would be the right to bear arms. This law was made hundreds of years ago when the United States still wasn't a independent country, and it was made because the United States didn't have an army to fight against the British, so they made a law that said that any citizen could own a firearm. That I can at least understand, but the thing that I can't is the fact that hundreds of years later when the United States is an independent country and there's not fighting against the invading British anymore, why do we still have this law? In the past century this law has almost never been used for a good purpose, people shoot other people for no real reason, homeowners are shot with their own guns when they are robbed, school shooters kill children because they're angry about losing all their money in the casino. Nothing good ever comes from this law, it only serves to hurt people, and yet even though this is so blindingly obvious that it's bad, and even though so many crimes have been committed because of it, the US, the most advanced country in the world, refuses to get rid of it. The argument can be made that guns are used for self protection, and sometimes they are, but almost always there used for the wrong reason. Did you know that if you are a homeowner in the US, it is more likely that you get shot with your on gun when getting robbed than it is that you actually manage to shoot the robber? It's disgusting that something so dangerous can be given to literally anyone. And for no reason at all. There are many reasons that people could argue against gun laws, and people already do. People have protested against these laws for years, and nothing ever comes of it. There are many ways to argue against these laws, one of the more popular ways is people protesting and rioting with boards that say things like "guns kill people" which isn't true. Guns don't kill people, people kill people, with guns. Guns have lead to so many unnecessary deaths over the years, and so far there has been absolutely end in sight, I can only hope that soon the politicians of the US will pull their heads out of their... well I just hope that they realize what's wrong and they fix it.

  19. A rule i can't stand is one of my mom's rules. Sometimes I'll be hungry and ask for an apple and cheese. so she cuts me an apple and says "How about some almonds or milk? You need 1.5g of protein per kg of your weight. " This annoys me because it doesn't matter the grams, it matter's the proportion. You should stand for what you believe in. but also see their view. (sorry i know this annoying rule is getting a childish reaction from me )https://food-guide.canada.ca/en/

  20. There are a lot of rules that I disagree with in our society. One of the rules that I found unfair is that some countries still don't allow girls to have an education. I think this is just wrong, everyone should have the right to have a good education, whether if you are a boy or a girl. Many of them can't read a single sentence because they can't go to school or if they go to school, they are likely to get attacked. I think everyone has the right to speak up and get their voice heard. I'm not sure how can I make a difference for them, but I know that the UN is trying their best to change their lives.

  21. Rules, rules, rules. For one, I hate them. They get in the way of a lot of the things that i want to do. Not just in life, but at school, at home, things like that. There are many that I dislike in general, specifically the one that says we have to go to school. We are in another red zone for coronavirus, yet some of the only facilities still running are schools. They think we are smart enough to not spread the virus around, even when we are all still together, in the same school. But, then again, some rules help us, and stop the bad people in the world ( not all the time ). If I were to protest a rule, I would do like any sane person would do. I would do it formally. I would come prepared, and know all the reasons of why I hate the rule, instead of being a lunatic about it, and spreading rage all over people, without giving an actual reason as to why I don't agree with the rule.

  22. The rule that I do not approve of in our society is the one that banns employees from wearing religious symbols to work also known as Bill 21. Considering that not all people wear a symbol of there religion into work but some do. There are some people who wear cultural and religious items proudly because they have no shame of there religion and it is part of there tradition. I think that everyone should have the right to stand up and fight for what the believe is right. If it has a just reasons for it to be heard than it should be looked at. If I was to argue against this unjust law I would follow after Martin Luther King Junior marching amongst many others showing our pride of our religion right up to the capital of Quebec to make the demands and sacrifices necessary to let out voices be heard by the ears of the Quebec government.

  23. Rules are an interesting topic, I don't want to say that I don't follow them because that makes me sound like an annoying kid who thinks hes cool for being bad. I don't like rules and that's the beginning and the end of it. I honestly think that if someone wants to do something illegal, they will do it regardless of the rules. By rules I mean rules of the law. of course I am not saying that people should be allowed to go around committing felonies, i'm simply stating that There are a lot of rules that i have knowingly and unknowingly broken, because I do not care for them. There is one set of rulers however that I will always follow, and those are my mothers rules, because I am terrified of my mother, and no matter how much I dislike the rules I will always try my hardest to follow them.

  24. Everyone should be entitled to proper education that benefits them in the long run. The school board thinks everybody thinks the same, like we're all robots. Not everybody is a super good in math, but might be really good in science. People have diverse ways of thinking and my problem is that the school system thinks we all are the same. School is a really good thing for society but there are many problems. Schools should start using teaching in different ways, change our environment sometimes and stop overloading us with a bunch of different topics. It’s proven that you learn better at a slower pace because you actually have time to understand the topic. We spend 7 hours a day at school getting overloaded with different subjects, then we get home and have 2-3 hours of homework. We want to also do our own things when we get home, so we start going to bed later and that causes some kids to be sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation causes mental health problems and that isn’t good. This doesn’t happen to everybody but some kids find it very difficult to deal with all this. That’s my problem with the school system. All the work is easy for me to handle but for some kids it isn’t.

  25. one rule that i dont agree with is that our parents or people shouldn't have the right to take your stuff away. I don't approve of this rule because if it is mine or something i paid for it belongs to me only and people shouldn't be able to take them away. I think everyone is aloud to argue whatever rule they believe in, since we have the right of speech. im usually pretty bad at arguing i just get really mad and/or annoyed.

  26. There are plenty of rules in society that I do not like but one of the rules in school that I don't agree with is the dress code. I don't think the school should be able to tell me what to wear and what not to wear. Obviously wearing a bikini to school isn't appropriate but why is it normalized to tell girls that wearing a shirt that shows a bit of midriff or pants that are "too tight" are inappropriate? I think we should be able to argue and stand up for ourselves without getting in "trouble", it's out body so it should be our say. I personally don't like following rules, whether its rules emplaced by my parents, teachers or even society. I like rebelling and having my own opinion but sometimes in school I feel like my opinion is worthless, inconsequential and will just cause more problems and consequences for me.
