Thanksgiving Holiday is about giving THANKS and showing GRATITUDE!

This year, 2020, has been quite challenging to say the least!

However, we should show THANKS and GRATITUDE.

What does Thanksgiving mean to you? Your family?

What are some things that you are THANKFUL/GRATEFUL for?

Explain.

  1. Thanksgiving doesn't mean much to me and my family. We do celebrate it by eating turkey but we do it for the sake of meeting up with our family friends and eating it together. To me and my family, it is just a fun holiday to just eat and talk with family friends. Some things that I am thankful for is that I am doing somewhat well in school, for the nice weather we have been having so far and how everyone in my family is healthy and doing well. Thanksgiving doesn't mean a lot to me although, I am still grateful for everything.

    1. Dang it, I thought I was the first one! My family also doesn't go to church for Thanksgiving or anything, but we do enjoy spending time together (and definitely enjoy the turkey). Great blog!

  2. To me, Thanksgiving means sitting around a table with my whole family, looking at a dinner that is bound to give us a couple of extra pounds. It's a day when you don't think about school or work, and you just spend time with your family. You sit around, stuff your face, and enjoy life. This is why I hope that the teachers won't give us a ton of homework because that defeats the purpose of Thanksgiving. It's a long weekend where we want to relax and not have to study things like the nutrients in a potato, how to simplify an inequality or about how the natives tortured each other thousands of years ago. Teachers do that all the time, there's always that one teacher who says "Oh it's a three day weekend, so that means you can easily finish these 20 pages of notes for Tuesday," or something along those lines. This year isn't one of the best years ever but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to be thankful for. In fact, it makes us thankful for more things because we realize what we've taken for granted all our lives. Seeing our friends, seeing our family, going to restaurants, going to school normally, being able to sneeze without being glared at menacingly by everyone in a 20 meter radius. So I am thankful for being healthy, having a healthy family, having a new cousin, spending more time with my family during quarantine, and the list goes on. All this to say I am very thankful for many things and if all goes well, next Thanksgiving I will be even more thankful.

Also being with our family, that's good too.

  3. Thanksgiving means to spend time with my family. Every Thanksgiving, my grandparents, us and my cousins get together and have a fun time together. We always do Thanksgiving at my grandparents house, as it has been our tradition for many years. We also usually play a tournament of ping pong otherwise known as table tennis and whoever wins gets bragging rights. I usually get second place and my cousin gets first place as he is better than me. Some things that I am grateful for are for my family that are all safe and well. I am also very grateful for ketchup as I basically cannot eat meat without ketchup.

  4. To me, Thanksgiving is all about spending time with your family and giving thanks. My family and I all participate by making/preparing the food together while listening to music and having a good time. I also have thanksgiving with both sides of my family. I go to my dads family first then my moms. On my dads side, I hangout with my cousins and on my moms side, I talk and hangout with my older cousins and aunts. There are many things that I am grateful for. Some of them are my family, friends, being able to live under a roof and be able to get a good education.

  5. My family doesn’t really celebrate thanksgiving. For us, it is just a regular day with nothing special. Since my parents haven’t really taught me about thanksgiving, the holiday doesn’t mean much to me. I am very grateful and thankful for what I have though like my computer and the family I have. I am also thankful for who I am and the friends I have. But the most thankful “person” to me is God. I think my family should celebrate thanksgiving but they won’t get it. I will probably celebrate it when I have my own family.

  6. To me and my family thanksgiving isn’t that big of a deal, the big part is just being grateful for the stuff you have because you could have it way worse. The most important thing that I’m grateful for is that I’m healthy, that I don't have any medical issues that I have to worry about. I’m really grateful for my parents because they're my biggest motivation in life. I’m thankful for basketball because I have made a lot of friends and it’s the best thing ever invented. I’m also thankful for my sisters, even though we fight a lot, life wouldn’t be as fun without them because they're funny people. I am grateful for everything I have in this world.

  8. Thanksgiving really doesn't mean a lot to me because I think it's a stupid holiday that no one really cares about. The only good thing to come out of it is that there is no school for two days. I personally hate going to Thanksgiving dinners with my family because I don't really enjoy these meetings. There is always a lot of food that I find gross and end up eating something I don't like and not much. I think my family enjoys getting together because they like to eat a lot and see each other. This year I am thankful that I won't have to see them this year because of covid.

    2. I also agree that Thanksgiving is a stupid holiday(wrote that on my blog too) I don't really see the point of having a day just to eat food and be grateful because shouldn't you be grateful everyday?

  9. My family isn't the religious type. We don't do prayers or hold hands and say thanks or anything like that. The only reason why Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays is because of the food. I find that Thanksgiving food is the best ever! But the things that I'm very grateful for is that I have the possibility of having this food on my table while some don't. I'm grateful that none of the people that I love have gotten sick this year (or any year). I'm grateful for the friends that I have and the for the people that will always support me.

  11. Thanksgiving doesn’t mean a lot religiously to my family. It's mostly for the sake of seeing my cousins and my grandparents. We usually go to my grandparents house and they make a nice turkey dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert. Thanksgiving to me is about relaxing, having days off and seeing family. I’m thankful for all of my amazing family and friends who I can always count on and who support me. I’m thankful that I have a good education, a house and 3 meals every day. It sucks that we don’t have Thanksgiving this year, but my family bought a turkey and we’re going to try and make it as normal as possible!

  12. I never used to celebrate thanksgiving with my mom or dad at all but when I met my step father and his family i realized that thanksgiving is actually a lot of fun since you get to hangout with your cousins that you don't see too often. for me and part of my family it's like a long weekend like Easter where I hang out with my family, minus the chocolates. some things i'm thankful for is having a roof over my head and having 2 great families and for being healthy.

  13. When I hear about the holiday thanksgiving, I don't really think about how it's meant for us to be thankful. I think that it's just going to be a nice family dinner with good food. It's a day where we are all together having a good time. But I guess i'm thankful for that. This years been a bit rough, so it's harder to say what i'm thankful for. I guess what i'm thankful for is having a house, food and being healthy. I'm also thankful for friends and family.

  14. For me personally I don't celebrate thanksgiving, nor like it, its just a day to put food in your mouth and be grateful for what you have even though you should always be grateful for the things you own, and you practically eat food every day so there's really nothing special about that but some people have different opinions on it and I'm completely okay with that. The biggest thing that I'm grateful for is having my little annoying dipstick of a brother. Yes he is very annoying but I still love that kid, no matter how many times he tries to get me in trouble, or recruits my cousins to try and tie me up whilst I'm sleeping(thank god I'm not a deep sleeper). That kids my forever number 1 and I'm grateful for that.

  15. Some of my thanksgiving favourite memories are sitting down in the dining room and eating turkey with my family. I remember when I was little flying over to England and getting to miss a week of school. Unfortunately we are not able to do it this year but I am so grateful that everyone in my family is healthy. Thanksgiving means spending time your family and being grateful for what you have. The best part of thanksgiving is when everyone goes into the kitchen to help cook.

  16. Thanks giving means the same to me as mostly everyone else. It means spending time with family, knocking myself into a coma with immense amounts of food, and having a good time. Unfortunate that it is on a monday this year, though. Something that I am grateful for is corona vi- I mean, time off from school, a summer where I don't have to go anywhere, really, and less population so that the Earth can survive for just that little bit longer. It might sound a little dark, but it's true, and now we can have a few more years on this planet, and maybe it has bought us some more time to try and fix global warming. I love thanksgiving.

  17. I have absolutely no memories of thanksgiving. My family is British, Scottish and Canadian which to me were always three countries that didn't celebrate thanksgiving, so because of this I've never celebrated thanksgiving. The only thing I really even know about thanksgiving is that it is celebrated by Americans, it's a holiday about overeating and we get a pedday on it. This year I've been thankful for a lot of things. One thing I am really thankful for is the 6 month summer vacation that we got. Another is that I haven't gotten sick yet.

  18. I may not celebrate Thanks giving, I may not have had the greatest year but to be honest it can be worse. I am thankful for the family I still have, it may not be much but were celebrating holidays together, having fun, going out. Nothing can stop you from having fun.I am thankful that I still have a house over my head, food for me to eat, a school to go to, luxuries of home, having a bed to sleep on. I demonstrate my gratitude by helping out ij the house with the daily chores so that it may be easier for my parents.

  19. Thanksgiving to me and my family means being all together and enjoying each others company. It means eating turkey, having a large feast, relaxing and going up north to my uncle’s cottage. I love Thanksgiving because I get to see my whole family but sadly this year I won’t be able to. I am thankful for having a supportive and healthy family. As well as for getting the chance to spend time with them during quarantine. I am also thankful for the lifestyle I live and the opportunities that I have been given and the ones to come.

  20. Usually thanksgiving is time were me and my entire family get together eat food and talk. My family has never really done the whole giving thanks tradition that's usually done on this holiday. But this year I'd say I would have to be thankful that everyone is in as best health they can be and Covid thankfully hasn't touched my family.

  21. My family and I don't celebrate thanksgiving since it's difficult to get every member of my family together. Most of my cousins live outside of Canada so we usually get together for Christmas. I consider myself a person who doesn't take anything for granted. Although some things may be inconvenient there's always someone who has things worse. This year i'm very grateful to be alive and healthy. I'm also grateful that my family is safe and healthy. I'm grateful that i've been able to continue dancing and that my parents converted our basement to a dance studio for me.

  22. My family does not celebrate Canadian thanksgiving because most of my family lives in America. But to my family thanksgiving is just a day to be grateful that everything that is on our table and in our home. We usually only all get together one every two years so when we are all together we make it a pretty big deal with a bunch of food. I am very grateful to live in a safe country and having parents that love and care about me. I am also grateful for being alive and healthy.

  23. To me thanksgiving means to reflect on all of the things I'm grateful for and to spend quality time with family. During thanksgiving me and my family usually go to my grandparents house. Me, my mom and a few cousins help my grandma with the food and we all just spend time together. Unfortunately we can't do that this year because of Corona but I'm still thankful i everyones healthy and doing well.

  24. Thanksgiving is not much of a holiday in my family, despite this, I still have a lot to be thankful for, some examples include, living in a country like Canada in this time of crisis, our country can keep the population educated and prepared for any new issues related to the virus. I am thankful for the little time that i got to play hockey, and I am excited to go back.

  25. Thanksgiving is honestly a very underrated holiday. I love it so much because of how much good food I get to eat. Every year we make a turkey, gravy, potatoes, asparagus, shepherd's pie, salad and so many more side dishes. Even though I am very tiny, I adore food and love to eat and this is the reason I love thanksgiving so much. I am very thankful for the fact that nobody in my family got covid-19, especially my grandparents. We have tried our best to maintain the rules given by the government, we have have some family gatherings here and there. I am just very thankful that those gatherings did not affect my family nor my health. I am also thankful for my parents allowing me to hang out with friends this summer. Although there was not really quarantine this summer, the rules were still stating to be cautious and try to stay away as much as possible. My parents allowed me to hang out with my friends a lot this summer with made quarantine a little more tolerable.

  26. To me thanksgiving means spending time with my family. We do not really celebrate but we do get together. We usually spend one day at my grandparents on my mom's side then the other day at my grandparents on my dad's side. This year i am very thankful for the fact that not too many people in my family have been affected by covid, and that i have friends and family to be around during these hard times.

  27. To me thanksgiving means giving thanks to things I take for granted and things that I forgot to give thanks for. This year I am thankful for having the possibiliTy to go to school and see my friends and classmates. I am also thankful for the possibility to learn at school with great Teachers. :) What are you thankful for?

  28. Thanksgiving to me is a day to celebrate what we are thankful for. Normally, my family visits my cousins who live in Ottawa and we have a feast, but this year will obviously be different. I am so thankful for many things, like to have a house to live in, even though a lot of us have houses, many people in the world don’t. I am also thankful for food and water, electricity and that my whole family is healthy. So many people in the world suffer from not having those things, so it makes me very grateful. Finally, i am also grateful for where I live, a safe place without guns, wars, and also a place where we have free healthcare.

  29. To me, thanksgiving is less about the meal and more about the preparation, my family rushing around the house pretending to clean up when were really just throwing random things in random cupboards. My grandma insisting on cooking the turkey even though we have to go to her house just to take it out of the oven for her. Through all the stress when were sitting down eating I find myself realizing that I bonded more with my family on the journey more than the destination. Thinking about the past years I don't remember a good cranberry sauce or salty gravy, I remember the intense rush beforehand.
