Towards the end of  Fahrenheit 451, we are introduced to the Harvard Hoboes.

We learn that each Hobo memorized a different text.

For example, Montag memorized the Book of Ecclesiastes.

If you lived among the Harvard Hoboes, and you could memorize any book in the world, which book would it be? Why?

Comments

  1. If I was to live among the Harvard Hoboes the book I would memorise would be Percy Jackson because it demonstrates a kid who was given extraordinary powers from his father was able to tame the flames and anger stirred by the gods. This book would not only distract me from crippled society that we lived in at the time but it would show how one person is all it takes to move a society, civilisation even with the right words of speech.

  2. If I lived among the Harvard Hoboes, and I could memorize any book in the world in would have to be a book called one of us is lying. The reason that i chose it was because it is my favourite book and i really like the them to it. This book is about five people in detention and one of them dies and the other four kids try to figure out who was the person that killed him. The thing is it had to be one of the four of them because of the way he died.

  3. If I could memorize any book in the world it would be The Notebook by Nicholas Spark. The book is about two people who fall in love. I love this book because in my opinion it’s one of the best love stories ever written. The story takes place during the 1940s where social class and wealth played a big part in who you would marry. Even though all the odds were against them they still found their way back to each other, even if it took some time.

  4. If I lived with the Harvard hobos the book I would memorize would be “Relentless” by Tim S. Grover. This is my favorite book of all time because it’s not a fictional book. The author of the book is Micheal Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and many other athletes. He talks about growing up and always wanting too help people. After he graduated college with a sports science degree he wanted too be a trainer for athletes, he's from Chicago so he wanted too be a trainer for the bulls. He kept getting rejected, until one day in 1989 Micheal Jordan said too the press that he was tired of being out muscled by the Detroit Pistons. Once he heard that he sent Micheal a letter and the rest was history. He said that the 15 years with Jordan were the best years of his life. He said in the book that everyone has that killer instinct in them. He always talks about never giving up and being relentless. I think this would be a good book too memorize because there are a lot of things that will make you obtain the highest level of success by never never being happy with the success you have now, you could always have better.

  5. If I lived among the Harvard Hobos, a book that I would memorize would be the Lord of the Rings and mainly the Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien. It has a great story and character and it is also one of the best selling books in the world. I like it because it had a very unique story which has many aspects to it. It has a lot of heroism in the book which can be a great theme for the people in the society of Fahrenheit 451. It would also be unique to all the books that they have for the Harvard Hobos as Lord of the Rings is super fictional and different from the others. I would probably have a rough time memorizing it because it is so long.

  6. If I would need to memorize a book, it would probably "Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire". I read it during the pandemic. It was a really good read, as it was very long (750 pages around) and it is the 4th book of the series, which I want to finish. I would choose this book, as it is very interesting, has many characters so the book does not feel boring, as something new always happens. In the book, the main character named Harry Potter is faced with even more challenges at Hogwarts (the school he goes to). This was a book that made me want to continue to read as at the end of every chapter, they ended it with a mystery.

    2. Harry potter is a good idea, but if I were to pick one of them I would pick the prisoner of azkaban.

  7. If I were one of the “Harvard Hoboes” I would probably want to memorize the book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone” by J.K. Rowling because it’s my favourite book. I really like how realistic the magic seems when you’re reading it. Harry potter is a book in which you go to a magic school called Hogwarts. In Hogwarts, you learn witchcraft and wizardry. You are sorted into 4 different houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Harry Potter faces many challenges while at Hogwarts, which really kept me interested to see how he solved all of them! I would want to memorize this book because the details make it such an interesting book to read. It really held my attention and made me want to read all the other books in the series.

  8. If I was a Harvard Hobo I would chose to memorize the Bible, I'm not very religious or anything, I just think it would be really funny being able to make up rules and than say it's in the Bible. It just feels like the ultimate power, I would have a blast. I could also tell them the real religion, even though I personally don't believe in a lot of the stories told in the bible it's good for people to have hope in something greater than them just like a deity. It keeps them sane, provides them with answers that they can't figure out otherwise, and keeps them on the right path.

  9. If I was a Harvard Hobo, I would choose to memorize the book "Th subtle Art of not giving a f***" By Mark Manson. The reason I chose this book out of all the ones I read is because this book taught me and made me realize that the key to living a good life is not to care about others and things, but rather focus only on the things that align with my personal values. It also taught me to approach to living a life that might not always be happy, but meaningful and centered only around what's important to me. I think that more people should read this book because it will boost their confidence and make them realize that they shouldn't care what other people think.

  10. If I was a Harvard Hobo I would 100% no doubt memorize Divergent by Veronica Roth, it is my favorite book of all time. The reason I chose this book is because of its amazing plot and its theme that no one can be just one thing, Example, during the story a girl must make a choice between 5 categories to live in for the rest of her life, the categories are erudite(the smart ones), abnegation(the selfless ones), candor(the honest ones), amity(the kind ones) and the faction I would choose, dauntless(the brave ones), there are also the factionless(people who don't fit into any category) but they don't do anything. Before the ceremony to choose a faction the 16 year old's that are about to choose must take a test to help them decide, the aptitude test, the girl Tris Prior gets divergent, someone who fits into too many categories, they are a threat to society, divergent are hunted down and killed. That's the plot and its honestly so good in my opinion.

  11. I would memorize the man who planted trees. Now this book isn't a very complicated book nor is it a book with an important meaning. This book was given to me by one of my grandfathers friends who passed and I really did enjoy the book and I think more people should read it. It's about a quiet man who moved away from everything and replanted an entire forest of trees destroyed by humanity.

  12. I would memorize Percy Jackson and the Olympians the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. This is the only book I have ever read multiple times and that is because it is one of the only books I have ever liked. It is very interesting and it has the right amount of action and suspense. I have read this book for multiple projects in elementary school and I also had to read it in Sec 1. The storyline of the book is the best amongst all the books I have read and that is why I would memorize it. I already know a lot about it therefore, I wouldn't have much trouble memorizing it.

  13. If I lived among the Harvard Hoboes, and was able to memorize any book in the world it would be "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury, because it would be like having the answer sheet for the test. In all seriousness, though, I think it would be the right choice because the book touches on many topics, such as the Cave, the Book of Ecclesiastes, Dover Beach, etc. I think it offers a lot of insight on how society is today and I am constantly stunned at how accurate Bradbury's depiction of the future is. Either he was amazing at predicting, or he invented a time machine. I mean, come on, he predicted Bluetooth! I think the messages the book told were very important and are often overlooked in our society.

  14. If I could memorise any book in the world it would be Good Omens by Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman. I would choose this book because it is my absolute favourite book, I find it really funny and I adore the characters and the way they interact with each other. This book is about an angel and a demon who are sent to earth to each their respective tasks. The angel must bless people and make good in the world and of course the demon must wreak havoc on the world. The two end up meeting and becoming friends and go on numerous silly adventures together.

  15. If I lived among the Harvard Hoboes, I would memorize The Body by Stephen King. The story is about a boy named Gordie and his friends going on an adventure to see a dead body. They live in a small town, and all of them came from unwealthy and domestic violence families. They are not respected in that town because people care so much about the family background, so they have less opportunity than the people who came from a nice and wealthy family. I think it kinda reflects on our society today because sometimes people don't care if you're really good at something but if you have a good background. We should treat everyone equally and give everyone the same opportunity that they deserved. This book is also partially autobiographical, and they actually made a movie based on this book called Stand by Me.

  16. If I had to memorize a book, it would probably be The Hunger Games. Even though this book is not my top favorite I would still memorize it because I find that it represents that it doesn't matter what you face or how many odds that are not in your favor, you can still succeed, you'll still make it. Because even after all Montag has been through, he is still standing. He is still trying to get through life and all of the things that he doesn't understand. After all that he has lost, he is still finding a way to make what he believes in come true. This is the message that I think the Hunger Games series brings us.

  17. If I was apart of the Harvard Hoboes and I had to memories a book, it would probably be Projekt 1065 (yes that is the spelling of project). This is my all time favourite book and I have read it multiple times that I could recite it to others. I am a big fein of World War 2 and I have read multiple books on World War 2. This book takes place in Nazi, Germany where an Irish family is spying on the Germans for intel to give to the Britains. Michael O'Shaunessey, the narrator/ Irish spy is the main character we follow throughout the story. I love this book and many others by Alan Gratz and I strongly suggest this to anybody who likes historic fictions and who is fascinated by the history of World War 2.

  19. If I lived among the Harvard Hoboes, the book I would probably memorize a dictionary. I would memorize a dictionary because then I would know basically the entire english language. I think it would have a lot of benefits to know every word in the dictionary like being smart and educated. It would also help me a lot in finding a good job.

  20. if i was part of the havard hoboes I would probable memorise game of thrones by George R. R Martin because it is one of my favourite series and it covers so many different topics that i think people should know about.

  21. I think that if i were living among the harvard hoboes and i had to memorize a book it would be the one of the maze runner books by james dashner because i really like sci fi stories and when i read those books in elementary school i liked them a lot. The books are kind of about a group of kids placed in a maze because in the real world there's a deadly virus and a company put them in there to test them.

  22. If I wanted to memorize one book I would probably pick the book a song of ice and fire. This book is what Game of Thrones was based off of, which is one of my favorites shows ever made, and I've never read the book but I do hear that it is different from the series so it would be a new experience for me. Also the internet says that this book would take 76 hours and 8 minutes which means that I would never really get bored of it.

  23. If I wanted a book, to memorize that would be my book. I would pick whinnie the pooh. And I know it sounds childish, but I love winnie the pooh a lot. The characters are simple and funny and make you feel good. It's always fun reading one of poohs silly adventures, and I know im fourteen, but sometimes I read it every now and then and it makes me happy. I would also want to share these nice little stories with the future.

  24. To be honest with you I don't like reading and I have never found any book that really jumped out at me. But one of my favourites is "Eden Summer". It is a good combination of suspense and tragedy which makes reading it not so painfully boring. I like the character development throughout the book and the sense of growing with the characters.

  25. If I were to live amongst the Harvard Hoboes, I would absolutely choose to memorize "The Rule of Three" by Eric Walters. Not only does it show us exactly how society would break down if there were to be a world wide blackout, were everything that has a computer built into it is shut down, but it also teaches us about certain survival skills, necessary to survive in a world were everyone has turned into savages. This book also follows the story of a teenager named Adam, who brings together everyone in his neighbourhood to fight a new threat, a group of people who gun down every little civilization and steal their ressources.

  26. If I could memorize any book, it would be the encyclopedia because then I'd be really smart and know everything. The encyclopedia includes things from many different books aswell, and so I would have the knowledge of thousands of books. It's basically a 1000 birds hit with one stone situation.

  27. If I could memorize any book I would memorize any Harry Potter book. I think it would be cool to memorize Harry and the sorcerers stone because it's a really long book and it would be cool to be able remember important events that happened. A lot of my friends like Harry Potter so it'd be a cool trick to show that you can memorize the book. Almost everyone has heard of Harry Potter so you'd get a lot of clout for knowing the book by heart.
