As of midnight, Montreal is moving into a CODE RED to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
For the next 28 days montrealers are not permitted to dine out, go to bars, have get togethers, etc.
How do you feel about CODE RED?
Is the Quebec premier making the right decision?
How should they handle people that don't follow the guidelines?
Explain.
Some quick prompts you can use for better blog comments:
-- What can you add from your own experience? Share a relevant story from your life. “This reminds me of a time…”
-- Is there a fact that is relevant to what they said that you could share, that either supports or challenges their point?
-- Ask them a question.
-- How does their ideas make you feel?
-- "I never thought about ___ like that. I used to think…. But now I see/wonder..."
I think that we all knew that a second wave will happen. Code red is a little annoying because people aren't following the guidelines and they're not wearing masks which results in having more cases. I think that the government is making the right decision but isn't also. They tell us that we need to avoid people for 28 days yet we're going to school everyday and being in the same building of over 100 people. Besides that, I think the government should handle people who aren't following the rules by giving them a bigger fine and they're rules should be more strict.
ReplyDeleteI agree its annoying that people aren't following guidelines
DeleteI think schools should close too. Great blog!
DeleteI think the points that you have made are great and I agree with your idea about closing schools. Good Job.
DeleteI think being in code red is annoying because there's the possibility of everything closing again and having to return to lockdown. Many people still don't take this virus seriously which will only result in it spreading more. I think the government is partially making the right decision. Closing places and banning get-togethers will help health officials get the virus under control. I think they should follow through with that idea and close schools as well. The people who don't follow the guidelines put in place should get fined.
ReplyDeleteI agree, schools should close down. good blog
DeleteYeah I agree, they should ban get togethers.
DeleteI agree, I think that it would help if schools close down but I truly hope they improve online learning because during the summer it was a real headache.
DeleteI think that moving into code red again should have been excepted I mean schools are the reason that the virus moved so quickly. The numbers increasing should have been excepted and I think that people shouldn't have reacted the way they are. I also think that their should be warnings before punishment with people not respecting social distancing.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they must have known that the numbers of cases we're going to go up.
DeleteI think that it’s good that we're going into code red but the guidelines they made are soft. They have too be more strict, kids are still going too school with 1000 kids a day and then going home too their parents and sometimes even grandparents so that puts them at risk. If they want this 28 day lockdown too work they should just close everything like they did in april and only people that can’t work from home should go too work. School is the reason the numbers are rising so quickly but we're staying open, it defeats the point because they're not fixing the biggest problem just fixing small problems.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! It does defeat the point.
DeleteI think a code red is a good idea. People are slowly forget that this is a pandemic and it is serious. I think the government made the right decision by putting us in code red but the government is prorating the economy over our health. We should not be in school, school Is practically a breading ground for Covid and its only going to get worse at the weather cools and down and the air becomes more dry. Its very annoying when people dont follow the protocalls, one person can ruin it for the rest. If you can't wear a mask for 20 minutes to go shopping then you clearly cant function in the society right now as it is. The government should be fining people who dont social distance.
ReplyDeletei agree people dont take the pandemic that serious anymore, great blog!
DeleteI think moving into code red is the appropriate reaction to the extreme increase in cases and I completely agree that people shouldn't be going out and having parties in the middle of a global pandemic. but i think that this will still have a large effect on restaurants and local businesses. It's expected considering people hardly follow social distancing rules anymore.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it definitely will have a large effect on restaurants and local businesses. Great blog!
DeleteI think going into Code red isn't that bad of an idea. Many people don't really cared about the virus anymore. It's almost like they completely forgot about it. What doesn't make sense is that the Quebec premier said that people aren't aloud to gather around or see others...That is exactly what we have been doing at/in school. So, how does that make sense? We don't respect social distancing no matter how much we say that we do and because of that, a child got COVID. They say that the school has procedures for that kind of predicament like online learning, but does the school realize that a CHILD has been infected with deadly virus? That this isn't just some bug? There treating this predicament like it's some new pet project. I think the Quebec premier is out of theirs minds if they think that they are actually making a difference.
ReplyDeleteMy recommendation is to make all the grades alternate days the way the grade 10 and 11's or doing. This way there will be more distance between students, less people therefore less chance of exposure. This can be supported by online tutorials. There will also be less students in each class.
Having alternating days for all the other grades is great idea. Great blog!
DeleteI agree with Code Red and the government's decision. They had projected that there would be a second wave and in order to lower the number of cases we need to put all social activities on hold for a while. People are starting to forget how serious the virus is and are taking the virus too lightly. We need to shut down in order to stabilize the number of cases. We should educate the people who aren’t following the guidelines. We need to explain to them that taking precautions that are put in place are not just for them but for the people around them.
ReplyDeleteI think that for the most part what the government is doing is completely right. Yesterday I heard on the radio that Quebec had over 70000 confirmed cases, which is crazy because that means that 1 in 100 people have Covid, which would also imply that about 13 people at our school also have Covid. The one problem I have with their system is school. They said that if we got to orange level they would immediately close down the schools and we would be back at home doing online classes, we passed orange 2 weeks ago. Also school is just abut the worst place to keep open. 1000 or more people go into a already overcrowded school without any guidelines for having to wear their masks or perform any real amount of social distancing, it's basically just a breeding ground for infection and disease. Other than school they have made some strides in the right direction. Bars and restaurants are gone again, businesses don't open to people without masks. I think that anyone who defies theses new laws should either be fined a couple thousand dollars or be jailed for a small period of time.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the schools should close but I don't like online school and I think the schools will try really hard to stay open.
DeleteI disagree, as the government does not make wearing mask mandatory. Thats one of the reasons why I think the government is not probably handling things
DeleteI'm not too bothered about the code red because it reduces the chance of the virus spreading and I get to stay home a lot more. I think that they're making the right decision to move into code red because if we want to get past this virus, we need to take action especially since some people are not taking necessary precautions. It's a bit difficult to enforce this because it will be hard to see if anyone is not following regulations, and if so many people do it then how will they punish all of them. And for doing what. Walking outside? Maybe community service but if every ones doing that together then its kind of doing the opposite of what they're trying to enforce. I think they should make empty threats that they don't plan on carrying out or not being too strict on it like saying people will get large fines. It wont make people fully stay inside or believe it but it will make them think twice about it because what if its true?
ReplyDeleteI think that code red is really annoying because you cant see anyone for 28 days. Yesterday the rest of my soccer season was cancelled because we went from orange to red. I think he is making the right decision. By closing all the bars and the restaurants it is restricting the amount of social gatherings happening. I think if people don't following guidelines they should be punished by getting a fine of something because they are not just risking their lives but also others.
ReplyDeleteThe code red is extremely annoying I agree
DeleteI believe that CODE RED is very important, as I believe that is very serious and could be very dangerous. In July, the cases were very low, such as 50, and now they are as high as 1000. The CODE RED now informs us that it has got even more dangerous. I am not scared but I'm kind of worried as this is very important. The Quebec premier is not making the wrong decision. First of all, they open schools. That just allows more people to be infected in even more cases than ever. Although online school is not really good, they should try to fix it. Second of all, why don't they make masks mandatory? This is probably THE main reason why so many people are getting infected. The government is doing a terrible job to handle this situation. To make people follow the guidelines, they need to make masks mandatory. This will prevent so many more cases. They should also make bigger fines so that they do not even try to test the government.
ReplyDeletei agree that opening schools is just going to make more people infected. great blog!
DeleteThe decision of opening schools was a "sickening" one. Ha! Get it? Anyway, great blog.
DeleteIn my opinion, going into code red was a good idea. I think most of us were expecting it to happen at this point. However, I don't think that it makes sense to keep schools open, where people are in enclosed areas together daily and come and go from their own personal homes, if we can’t be in contact with large groups of people for 28 days. I think we’re putting all the students’ and teachers’ health and lives at risk, simply so that we can get the economy going. People that don’t follow the guidelines and restrictions are ignorant of other people's health conditions. Police Officers should be fining people more than they already are that don’t wear their masks or social distance.
ReplyDeleteI personally agree about the health lives of teachers and students because they say you can't have 10 people in the same room yet they put 30 in one small room
DeleteI think moving to code red is the right decision. People shouldn't be going out and getting together during this global pandemic. I think people who don't take the virus seriously and don't follow the rules should get a fine or other punishment because they're not just risking their lives they're also risking other people's life. If they wear a mask or maintaining social distance, then it might make a big difference, so there won't be so many cases every day. If people want to go back to normal life soon, then they should start respecting the guidelines.
ReplyDeleteGoing into code red is smart but I honestly feel like code red isn't efficient enough. They just closed down bars and restaurants but didn't bother to shut down schools. They say your not aloud a gathering of 10 or more people yet they put about 1000 kids in a school and 30 kids in a classroom. I feel like code red should at least have a bit more rules so that everyone actually stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! Schools are one of the biggest spreads of Covid-19 and they should have closed them.
DeleteI agree, schools are probably a big part of why we are going into red zone, so why aren't we shutting them down too?
DeleteAs annoying as it is to not be able to have family or friends over for the next 28 days, I think code red has to be done to contain the virus because we want to eliminate it as quick as possible. The people who don't follow guidelines should probably get fined more harshly so that it doesn't seem worth it to go out with their friends since they clearly still don't understand the importance of containing the virus. Although code red is definitely a step in the right direction, I think one of the things the government should do is make masks mandatory. I'm sure it isn't as simple as that so I can't start hating the government but it would probably tone down the amount of cases there are and help protect the world from the virus.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it suckes not being able ti see people.
DeleteI think that it is very worrying that we have entered a red zone and even more worrying that people still aren't respecting the rules in place to protect people. I don't think it's a good idea to keep schools open because most kids don't respect social distancing and mask wearing. I do however think that it was a very good decision to close bars and restaurants. I will be a lot more careful around my friends because you never know who has it.
ReplyDeleteI know it seems annoying to most teenagers like me who cannot go and see their family and friends but I believe these strict rules are what we need to ensure the safety for all civilians. I honestly believe that they should have took action a bit earlier because of how high the numbers rose in such short time. I would have either shut down schools earlier because of that is the main factor of Covid-19 spread or moved us to code red earlier. So long as everyone follows the rules that the government has implemented, I think our numbers should descend and we can be able to keep on going with our normal lives pretty soon. I know it may seem frustrating and annoying to everyone but it will be not close to as bad as what happened in March so if we power through, we can go back to normal.
ReplyDeleteI completly agree.
DeleteHonestly, I think that the government should have kept code red going since September. It wasn't smart letting everyone go again, and that's the sole reason why we are in code red once more. These rules are the things that are keeping us safe, but only if we follow them. If people don't follow the rules, give them a warning, and keep it on record. If they keep doing it, arrest them. That's what they were doing before, and it was smart. It also worked, which is very important. So, I think they should simply keep doing that. However, we do need to stretch our legs ( in a metaphorical sense ), so we should have, like, breaks, or something in that manner. It will be angering and frustrating, but if everyone keeps a good mindset, then we''ll be fine, and over with this soon.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a good idea to shut down bars and restaurants to help stop the spread of Covid, but it’s going to affect the business. The bars and restaurants just reopened and now they have to close again, so they won’t be able to make any income and it was already hard shutting down before, now again, I think many businesses are going to go bankrupt. I think that a big reason why the cases are going up again is because we just opened school. Even though we are closing some things to help stop the spread, the biggest reason why the cases are going up isn’t even closing. I think the government should make the fines for not following the rules more expensive, so if the fines are really high for not wearing a mask in public, or exceeding the amount of people in gatherings, less people will rebel against the rules.
ReplyDeleteI personally think that the government should have moved us to code red sooner. maybe we don't like the restrictions but they are necessary to keep everyone safe. I didn’t like masks at the start but I got used to it, and if it means that I can see my teachers, friends and peers, I'll do anything. I think they should have kept the 2 m distance rule for students as well. I don’t learn well by zoom but it is an ok last resort. People who don't follow the common sense will give covid but not receive it as easily. Therefore they should get one warning, one huge fine then put into one room where they see no one.
ReplyDeleteI think we knew that the code red was coming. I think it's the right thing to do because the number of cases keep going up and closing everything will probably help to stop that. but there are still some people who don't take the virus seriously and don't wear their masks or social distance so that definitely won't help. Schools should also be closed though because they're part of the problem. I think people who don't follow the guidelines should get fined.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I really think it all started up again because people all thought that it was being forced as from a dictatorship but really the government has our best interest, our safety and of others.
DeleteI feel good knowing that our government and the premier of Quebec are taking the right decisions to ensure the protection of the people of this province. Though I am dissatisfied the premier not deciding to also make schools online again. Even though he is thinking of the education of the young citizens of Quebec he is not taking into consideration the dangers of covid-19 spreading through the schools which may reach there family and there surroundings. The people that don't follow the guidelines should get fined of 2000 or more in my opinion because people are being careless and not realising the ease of the spread of this infection is and there are those even refusing to follow these guidelines for they think either its a joke or that there being controlled but neither is true. All this reminds me of when I was in elementary school and back then we were careless and did not think of catching a cold in the winter. One day I come to class and it's only 2 people other than me in the class. Everyone caught the flew.
ReplyDeleteI am unhappy that we have to go into code red, of course, but it is necessary. Personally I think that the government has their priorities a bit crooked, leaving schools and stores open, but not allowing people to hang around in parks, or play team sports. I am extremely nervous about hockey getting cancelled, it hasn't been cancelled just yet since the west island is relatively low on cases but either way i don't want hockey to be cancelled.
